I remember a few years ago people were talking about Dabo as a replacement for Saban and I laughed at the thought. Thought he was a goofy son of a bitch that couldn't coach and would be nothing more than a lazy Bryant/Stallings good ole boy type hire.

Now I reluctantly acknowledge that he probably has to be the first call. However part of me is still skeptical he would be the right fit. The ACC and the SEC are very different for football coaches.

Still his name is now so big and his recruiting so good that he certainly would be one of the top choices.

He is still goofy and annoying though.

People always talk about fits

Rich Rod fit at WVU, it was a disaster at Michigan

Orgeron fits at LSU, I dont think he fits most other places

Dabo fits great at Clemson, I just dont think it would be as good of a fit at Bama. Its a completely different dynamic

I used to think Dabo was a done deal to Bama as a former player. However at Clemson he has a sure path to the playoff every single year as there is no real competition in the ACC who can challenge him. FSU is a dumpster fire. At Clemson he is playoff bound every year for the next decade.

It reallly depends on when Saban retires. If it's in the next two years then Dabo and Mario Christobal will be candidates, and maybe Pruitt if he can turn things around at UT.

Longer than that and I think you can add Billy Napier to the list assuming he moves up from UL soon. Neil Brown could also get a look if he gets it going at WVU.

Well, they had Cheatin' Charley Pell. He put them on probation after committing many infractions before he went to Florida and did the same. That's the kind of history Clemson can be proud of.

Gross, glad LSU is stuck with him.

ETA: In all seriousness, there is no reason for LSU's defense to not be at least top 10, with all the talent y'all have. Not sure why Canada's defense isn't performing better.

Other years he's been pretty good though.

Edit 2: I'm a dumbass, got Canada confused with Aranda.

In all seriousness, Dabo *would* definitely go to Bama if Bama called.

Don't think for a minute that he wouldn't do it. He's a Bama alum.

He is from right outside Birmingham and still has big ties to the school.

Why do you think Dabo still has not said anything bad about UA? Why do you think he has very specific stipulations about going to Bama in his contract that protects Clemson (which to be honest is fair)?

Dabo is an easy guy to make fun of but he is smart and is a classy man. He has let Clemson know that he would very likely leave should Alabama call when Saban steps down.

Don't fool yourself.
