Guess we see if Nick wants to give us another year while we sort that out.

Oh darn.

No offense to the Goat, but no thanks. He struggled with the locker room and hiring decent coaches. Next man up if needed

Darkhorse candidate- DeMeco Ryans. Doing well with the Texans, but stuck with a playoff/not Super Bowl roster. If Deboer walks, I could see the Tide calling him home.

In this case, I don't think the lack of experience as a college coach would be a big issue; Bama has the machine in place to keep recruits and money flowing, as long as they stay good. And he's a technically sound coach.

I could be wrong, but didn’t all of these never even have 2 consecutive losing seasons? Pretty sure they all won 10 games and at least 2 won SEC championships.

We have to go to 3 ex coaches back in AU’s history to find the last one who had even 1 winning season
Are you making the assumption that I am comparing Alabama to Auburn? Best you can do to defend is say "Yeah but Auburn!".

Only people to retreat/quit faster than an AU fan in a football discussion are the French Army.

That has to be one of the dumbest things anyone has ever said on this board.

It's not the far off really. Saban did get softer as his years went on. You can find older players like Julio and AJ talking about it. The players attitudes were absolute crap in his final years. I found myself not likely many Alabama players and what they were about. Even into last year. This year I'm starting to like players again as they have been humbled.

And then we start losing out on quality coordinators towards the end because everyone would hire them for HC if they had success. So we got BoB and shite. Kept Golding around for many years likely in part because he wasn't the worst and wouldn't get stolen.

The great part of Saban's legacy will be that he was so competitive and such that he knew when it was time to retire.

We don't want Saban coming back really. If he wanted to I would be 100% like - let him, he deserves it and I would be fine with it. He's earned it. But if you are talking about winning NCs and such, I think he realizes that time is kinda gone. It doesn't matter if you are good at something if you don't have the passion for it anymore.

You know when you’re in a hole it’s a good idea to quit digging.

How many of Nicks former assistants are not only head coaches, but the best in the game? The man forgot more about how to evaluate assistants than you’ll ever learn.

Nobody who ever watches Nick talk about football ever doubts he doesn’t still have a passion for the game.

Have you ever seriously watched a game? I’m struggling how anyone can be this stupid.

The last coordinators to get hired away were in 2020. That was Sark going to Texas.

After that we had:

2021 - BoB + Golding
2022 - BoB + Golding
2023 - Rees + Steele

Passion for the game and passion to coach at the level and shite he was are completely different things. He himself said in front of congress he retired because players no longer cared about development, only paychecks. And his passion was about developing players to be the best on and off the field.

He retired on his own terms and timeline for a reason.

I've been an Alabama fan for over 50 years. You're barking up the wrong tree.

I’d just have to call you Junior then Sonny. I predate Bryant.

And you assumed he’s lost it. He hasn’t.

I noticed you didn’t dispute that he’s been the pre-eminent developer of quality coaches. You just bizarrely believe he forgot how.

I'm not sure what part of he was getting softer and having a harder time getting quality coordinators you don't understand.

Again, there was a clear drop off in their quality and the coaches you are talking about.

And there was a clear drop off in player development, Saban's bread and butter because the kids didn't care about it as much.

Nobody is hating on Saban, these are the reasons why he retired. It was HIS CHOICE, he had no pressure on him.

Gee, he taught other guys how and thinned the pool out. Imagine that.

Like that hadn’t happened before. We saw that play out a couple times.

The one area he definitely did miss on assistants was S&C. After Scott left it definitely dropped off.

Well it's obvious having a rational conversation with you is impossible because you're like a female who takes everything as a personal attack.

So, enjoy your fantasy because Saban isn't coming back.

When you throw a bunch of incorrect negatives at the best coach we ever had, then act like the injured party when it’s noted I think who’s wearing the tampon is pretty obvious.

He might not, but if he did you’d be in a very small minority complaining we didn’t get someone better
