Can we wait for Aranda to prove himself
I can understand this, I'm usually the same way when other fans put new coaches above proven ones.
Smart at UGA for instance
I will try and be objective (I'm biased towards LSU obviously) and say I think he was considered at top 10 DC in the sport nationally before we got him.
He had two top 10 defenses at Wisconsin, number 2 last year.
It's hard to put him number #2 without seeing him in a similar setting as other guys on the list, but if there is a list being made he belongs in the discussion IMO.

You almost have to make the title "Returning Coordinators" for it to be reasonable
I understand not including him until he "proves" himself in the league. But then why even ask who are the best coordinators in the SEC if you have to be a returning SEC guy to be on the list?
Aranda did everything possible besides coach in the SEC last year to be on this list.
He had Wisconsins defense ranked behind only Saban/Smart's Alabama defense last season.
There's really nothing else he could do...
So we are saying all the other DCs on that list would have had Wisconsin above every other FBS team not named bama last year too? Wisconsin must be stacked with blue chips if you could just plug in any DC and they are tops in the nation

Alabama gave up 42 points and over 500 yards to that Ohio State team. 433 to Ole Miss last year. 40 pts to Clemson and 550 yards, yeah there you go!
Not sure how this is relevant to the discussion. Bama no longer has that DC running their defense.

I assume his response was to someone bringing up Ohio state thrashing aranda in 2014.
I think he just means even great Defenses and great DCs have bad days, or days when they are just outmatched in Wisconsins case.
I don't think anyone would say bama is lacking in elite talent or elite coaching, yet they still had the performances he mentioned. Now those were great teams, but that was the same Ohio state team (NC) that tore up wisonsin also.

I am in no way a fan of LSU, and agree he belongs in the discussion. I also think this list changes every season

Aranda didn't coach those teams. Now if Bama had played the Troy's, Hawaii's, Miami (Oh),Minnesota's and Purdues, we could compare.
Lol, it compares if you compare the recruiting rankings of fricking Alabama to the rest of the country.
Wisconsin would be closer in talent to some of those big 10 teams than bama.

I'm sure Arkansas fans didn't hype any coach they may have hired from Wisconsin before he ever coached a game in the SEC either
In their defense Bert was a huge upgrade to John L Smith, but Aranda is probably a huge upgrade to Steele. I don't know much about Aranda, I just know that Steele is not a very good DC.

Pruitt
Schoop
Enos

TBD : Aranda (my guess is Top 5 this time next year, just want to see it in the SEC for a year first)
Next group

and 59 points to ohio state. If you look back at wisconsins schedule over the last 3 years, pretty much every team that had a reasonably good offense (and they didn't play many, terrible, terrible football division) put up yards and points, and then wisconsin had a bunch of shutouts vs the troys and rutgers of of the world to get their defensive rankings high
Yeah, but he's going to have way more talent on the field at LSU than he did at Wisconsin. Wisconsin's a good Big 10 team...but LSU has just tons of elite athletes on the defense. You put his Xs and Os with the Jimmies and the Joes on campus and watch out!
