I agree that the UF effort to add Petty to some UF lore after the fact is weird/inauthentic
That said, I'm guessing there are a lot of thing likes that throughout sports and the cynical/fake elements of it fade over time.

Frankly it's kinda Aggie-level cringey. Yes this is coming from an LSU fan, but also someone that sings "Learning to Fly" at the top of my lungs (and vocal range) when I hear the song come on in the car. (but not on an airplane, cause I ain't got wings)
