UCLA has been wire to wire no. 1 all season with many thinking they are an overwhelming favorite.

St. Mary's RPI was 140. Not good, but nowhere near the worst in the field.

Auburn has the number 3 RPI and was seeded 4th.

Milwaukee has been run ruled several times this year by teams that didn't even make the field. Their RPI is 238 (second worst in the field) and they are one of the few in the tournament with an overall losing record.

UCLA and St. Mary's played a competitive game throughout with St. Mary's winning 3-2 in their last at bat.

Auburn fell behind 10-0, never had the lead, and eventually lost 13-8.

Auburn, just because they got down so big so fast.

Also Milwaukee is a worse team.

As an Auburn fan of many decades, I was by no means shocked.

Auburn to me.
UCLA has been #1 all year but they play in the big 10. Big 10.....baseball. That's like being the tallest midget. yes I know they were great last year and returned a bunch but them being clearly on top all season doesnt' really move the needle a ton to me.

Auburn is great and has proven it in the SEC. They were a very deserving top 4 natinoal seed and they were playing against a scrub with a friggin losing record, and not only did they lose but they got trounced. Embarrassed.

Nothing shocks me in college baseball. Almost everyone has at least one decent to outstanding pitcher regardless of the defense behind them.

We swept them this year , so def surprised. They don’t have the pitching to even get through winners bracket, Auburn still very much in it,

If you are a lifelong Auburn fan, odds are good you have Bi Polar issues in real life. I guess over the long run you just learn to live with it an load up on Prozac to get through the day to day. The upside, you will Winn again and ,probably when you are picked to lose, so you have that going for you.

You absolutely nailed it, brother! Being an Auburn fan in any sport is an absolute bipolar roller coaster!

I don't think I am all that shocked by any of it. That's just baseball. It's not like track where the fastest guy is the fastest guy. Some days the the best team doesn't win the game.

I still expect both of these teams to get out of their regional. Once you get into the pens in tournament baseball, all hell can break loose.

yes, they played 1 game against 3 different teams, none of which are in the top 10. That's a bit different than playing a 3 game series against SEC competition every weekend.

We had them on the rocks out at the Frisco tournament but let them off the hook.

UCLA. They set history by being the first number one overall seed to lose game one.

The AUB loss is inexplicable.
I can see some last inning baseball miracle or something and Milwaukee wins but Auburn got dominated.

Maybe but the numbers are really against them - almost 80% of day one losers in this format can’t advance. About 35% force a deciding winner-take-all game but the vast majority of day one losers also lose that game.

If you told me both teams would lose and that’s all the info you gave me, I’d be more surprised UCLA lost

However, the way Auburn lost was more surprising than the way UCLA lost

It was a complete 1st inning disaster by our Friday ace. He was tossing batting practice.
