Jameis Winston 8 years ago. He's from Bessemer along with Bo Jackson. Also Gucci Mane.

TU and A&M have never locked up the state outside of M. Brown...
I don't think it's possible to do that anymore either...

Your list counts Cam Newton as from Georgia (where he played HS) and Steve Spurrier from FL (played HS in Tennessee).

Inconsistent methodology is inconsistent.

In Mack’s best years, the Sooners were still getting most of the kids they wanted. Not saying we were hand picking them, but we were always in the mix for the top end.

California - 13
Ohio - 10
Texas - 9
Pennsylvania - 6
Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia - 4
Iowa, Alabama, New Jersey, Minnesota - 3

Eta
I swear you changed the op to SEC states from all states.

No, it was SEC states all along. I don't pay attention to the current Pac-12 or Big 10. Other than OSU cherry picking far too much good TX HS talent these days...

Rodgers, Brady and Elway alone push CA over the top of TX in terms of NFL & SB MVPs. Even tho TX has more HOFers.

I'll take current TX with Mahomes, M. Garrett, V. Miller, Mike Evans, Ed Oliver, Jakeem Grant, A. Jones(GB), Waddle, DJ Hayden, William Jackson, J. Adams, Jason Peters and Lane Johnson minus-3 (-3)
over Lamar, D.Henry, S. Michel, Jeudy, Ridley, and the rest of the current FL NFL squad.

All-time TX (-6) VS. All-time FL
Lamar throws 3 ints in that game...

Texas has over 50,000 high school players per year and puts out ~330 div I prospects per year

Louisiana has 10,000 high school players per year and puts out ~110 div 1 prospects per year

Do the math, carry the 1, divide by your football ego and poof...Louisiana has twice the Div 1 prospects per person as Texas. That's a Texas-sized big difference.

As for NFL, let's go right to the top. There were ~17 years in a row where the 2 Super Bowl teams each year had at least 1 starter, not just from Louisiana, but from New Orleans to Lafayette general areas. Some years, there were 6 or so starters among the starting 44 (22 O and 22 D), from little ole subset of little ole Louisiana (ie, 2008 New England vs. NY Giants, among several others). I quit counting last 4 or so years so possibly longer that 17 years...

I always thought TX killed more Div 1 prospects than it nurtured given the over-sized high schools, some with 3,500 up to 5,000 students. Can only field a starter team of 22...just think of how many would-be talented players turn to other sports or just exit stage left. I lived in Houston for 10-years and watched A LOT of HS football there. Had a kid go to school there (The Woodlands).

Per USA TODAY, the following states have produced the most high school players that are currently in the NFL....as for all time, it may be similar. But, these numbers fluctuate from year to year.

1. Florida 204
2. California 203
3. Texas 181
4. Georgia 114
5. Ohio 78
6. Alabama 63
7. Louisiana 58
8. North Carolina 55
9. Pennsylvania 55
10.New Jersey 52
11.Michigan 49
12.South Carolina 47
13.Virginia 46
14.Maryland 35

Louisiana definitely cranks them out despite it's population size. The only places it's really lacking is DL and LBs vs the bigger states.

All-time DL with Fred Dean, Neil Smith, Willie Davis, Kyle Williams, Pat Williams, Tyson Jackson is nice but not on FL & TX level.
All-time LBs with AJ Duhe, Deebo, Devin White and Brady James is nice too but not on FL & TX level.

The DFW metroplex has a higher population that #2,3, and 4 combined

Per capita Texas football has grossly under produced. Change my mind.

Underproduced using what metric? National Championships? NFL All-Pro awards? Definitely not HOFers. Half of TX is Messican and don't play football, so it should be a "football participation demographic" any way....

TXHSFB is doing something right when it comes to producing HIGH QUALITY pros.

Despite playing in less competitive college conferences (SWC & Big 12), against less successful teams than the SEC has, TXHSFB players have won A TON of NFL Awards and have the most NFL HOFers when playing against the best competition in the NFL... The NFL thought very highly of TX players in the 2020 draft...Where's the underachievement?

NFL HOFers:
TX - 30
CA - 19 + 2 last induction
FL - 11 + 4 last induction
Cali is the big underachiever...
And FL not catching up anytime soon...

The two best OTs in the NFC for the last decade both played HSFB in TX. Jason Peters and Trent Williams. How's that underproducing?

Naturally, highest populations should produce the most.

However, if you want to see who produces the most efficiently, have to divide by population.

However again, not all population plays football. So you should divide by total number of HS football players per year.

If you do that, the list will look something like (I did this years ago but very dated now):

1. Louisiana
2. Mississippi
3. Georgia
4. Alabama
5. Ohio
6. Florida

Texas falls quickly but still beat California

Give or take

If you combine two random 2 5A Texas High Schools football teams and two random 5A Louisiana High Schools football teams (ignoring the size differences between 5A), I would put my $ on Louisiana High School twice as many times as I would bet on Texas High School team.

It is twice the density.

No it doesn't! The Dallas-Ft. Worth urban area is around 7.5 million....Florida alone has 21 million, Louisiana is 4.6 million and Mississippi is 3 million. Georgia is 11 million.

Despite the per capita numbers, the QUALITY of Louisiana front 7 NFL products vs. TX front 7 NFL products is not even close...

Michael Strahan HOF
John Randle HOF
Von Miller 1st ballot HOF
Joe Greene HOF
Mike Singletary HOF
DEs-
M. Garrett All-Pro
D. Hunter (Katy) All-Pro
H.Martin - NFLDPOY & SBMVP
DTs -
Michael Carter - multi pro bowls
Jerry Ball- multi pb's
Casey Hampton - multi pb's
Shaun Rogers - multi pb's
LBs-
Derrick Johnson - multi pb's
Ken Harvey - multi pb's
JTrotter - multi pb's
Jesse Armstead - 5xpb & 3xap
Zach Thomas - should be in HOF

Quality > per capita

Texas is 5 Louisiana's in population. The more specific you get in position, if Texas does not show an edge, it should make you really question quality of Texas football. However, in general, front 7s from Texas are pretty bad azz. As subjective as "quality" is, that is a strong list from TX. And, your TX list is incomplete (eg, Michael Brockers and Malcolm Brown). Is it 5:1 better than LA? Nope, not close, especially as subjective as "quality" is.

LA generally lags in consistency in producing highest level QBs, O-line and LBs. There are some elite ones and on relatively consistent basis, but not consistently deep historically and relatively speaking. Likely law of averages in small state but also element of type of athletes and culture of the football (more on that than time for here).

While there many elite ones (eg, Andrew Whitworth and Devin White), overall this is not consistent. On the other hand, specialists (RBs, DBs, WRs overflows on a consistent basis) and no state can touch per capita / "quality" (your word) combination of Louisiana there.

If TX high schools would cut themselves in half (on average), I think you would more than double the talent that comes out of Texas (at least to Div 1 level). The big high schools, by definition, will put a heck of a product on a 22 starting position roster. But, it kills a whole lotta would-be 22 starting position rosters because talent suffocates in the numbers. I saw it in Conroe ISD annually.

I always wonder about these people who want to talk about all-time lists. I don’t care what your “great grandpappy” saw as a child. California has put out the best talent all-time, but now they tend to be soft as shite. They can play positions without much contact. Mostly WR/QB/CB. California prefers playing 7 on 7 so mamas wittle babies don’t hurt their noggins. Strap on some pads and these guys wilt. Texas is following the California model, but they’re still a decade behind. Enjoy any all-time lists while you still can, I guess.

Look at the rosters of the National Championship winning teams...I bet you find a lot of Texans on several rosters...Especially, OU's and Nebraska's rosters...
