I'm just counting all the years someone said LSU was the champ - whether it's a mathematical model, or retroactive:

1. 1908: LSU 10–0 Edgar Wingard NCF
2. 1935: LSU 9–2 Bernie Moore WS
3. 1936: LSU 9–1–1 Bernie Moore SR, WS
4. 1958: LSU 11–0 Paul Dietzel AP, B(QPRS), BR, BS, CFRA, DeS, DuS, FN, HAF, L, NCF, PS, SR, UPI, WS
5. 1962: LSU 9–1–1 Charles McClendon B(QPRS)
6. 2003: LSU 13–1 Nick Saban A&H, BCS, BR, CM, DeS, DuS, MCFR, NFF, R(FACT), SR, USAT/ESPN, W
7. 2007: LSU 12–2 Les Miles AP, B(QPRS), BCS, BR, CCR, CM, FWAA, MCFR, NFF, SR, USAT, W
8. 2011: LSU 13–1 Les Miles A&H, CCR
9. 2019: LSU 15–0 Ed Orgeron A&H, AP, BR, CCR, CFP, CFRA, CM, FWAA/NFF, MCFR, SR, USAT/AMWAY, W

At least there is a case for 9.

But, w/e, personally, I just count the major poll selectors, so I have the Tigers at 4.

Okay, but no one claims titles not listed in the records book. Not even Bama.

Can you point me to the record book? I'm not seeing 1941 for Bama on the NCAA site.

The blue bloods was already decided decades ago. Outside of those 8 teams no one else can win their way into being a blue blood. So Lsu or Georgia or Florida or Clemson or Miami or Fsu or anyone else no matter what they do going forward will never be a blue blood because it was already established years ago and this is coming from an Fsu fan. That doesn't mean that certain teams don't have great programs. In the big scheme of things who gives a heck if you are a blue blood or not just so long as you are winning championships.

I’m not reading through this dumb thread, but the correct answer is neither.

From your link:

quote:

NATIONAL CHAMPION MAJOR SELECTIONS (1896 TO PRESENT)
Anderson/Hester (Seattle Times) Math 1997 2017

Poll Systems History
(Listed alphabetically)
Anderson and Hester (1997-present), a mathematical rating system developed by Jeff Anderson
and Chris Hester. Published weekly in The Seattle Times.

From the A&H website:
quote:

2011-2012:
1. LSU
2. Ok St.
3. Alabama
4...

Apart from the fact that I disagree with the NCAA to include computer models in what they call, "Poll Systems", it looks like an oversight on their part. They have Utah as A&H's selection for 2008, but neglect A&H for 2011.

I'd rather not be considered one of those. History suggests they're a dying breed.

Why? I just think it's funny that LSU has about as much claim to the 2011 title as Bama has to the 41 title.

...which is basically zero.

UGA and LSU are not the same. A more reasonable comparison is UGA and BYU. In the scenario I'd say BYU because they won it all after 1980, and have a more recent Heisman Trophy winner

It’s an honor to be compared to a fine school like UGA.

One stat where LSU really has an advantage is Weeks ranked #1:
LSU 38
UGA 15

Then of course LSU having the 4 national championships vs 2.

Reading comprehension is why we cant have nice discussions here.

He didn't ask who was a blue-blood.

He asked a hypothetical: who is more of a blue-blood between two specific teams.

But dumbasses have to go off and make a claim that there's only 8 blue-bloods, etc. Which has nothing to do with the question asked.

Actually it was longer. Played your first game in 1893 and your first claimed NC is 1958. That’s 65 years.

Unlike you Gumps, LSU doesn't claim a NC every time some obscure news publication or poll votes them #1.
