Thats true, but people often leave out how good those clemson defenses were in their championship years.

2015- #11 S&P defense, had 9 NfL players with 4 in the first two rounds on defense.

2016- #6 S&P defense, had 2 NFL players

2018- #3 S&P defense, had 5 nfl players with 3/4 of their d-line drafted in the first round

Thats leaving out how brillant Venables is as a D.C.

Yeah Clemson had some dudes on defense and yeah they scored a lot of points with no OL in the NFL.Many ways to skin a cat but you still have to get stops at some point. Got to have enough guys on defense that can play

Most games are decided by a handful of plays anyway. Question is which team is going to make it. That 2018 game was a shock to a lot of people and yeah it was a 28 point game but still Tua’s second interception and the fake FG is what really won the game for Clemson. Those two don’t happen and you and I are sitting on the edge of the couch all night like the other games.

Clearly the most upside.

Bama also gave up an easy long td in that game when one of the SB’s messed his knee up and fell down. So 3 plays.

Yeah I didn’t want to bring that up. I know that still stings a little for Tide fans but you’re right.

Any coach whose name does not rhyme with Russ Calzahn.

No because Bama was not going to win that game anyway. The one that hurts is the 1st game Clemson won. Bo Scarborough was running at will on Clemson. They had no answer for him. Just as soon as he gets hurt and goes out of that game the Bama offense became stagnant and they could not do much of anything the rest of the night. If Bo doesn’t get knocked out of that game Bama would have won that game pretty easy. The kid that hit Bo and put him out of that game should have got a ring the size of Texas.

Yeah sorry I shouldn't have repeated myself, but all I have heard throughout the football world this year is how defense is becoming extinct.

I want someone who is competent on one side of the ball as a coordinator, but whichever side he’s on I want the best recruiter. I mean best recruiter for players and coaching staff.

I used to want someone who had complete knowledge and control over one side of the ball so you only needed one elite coordinator. However, it seems more likely now that you still need two good coordinators regardless of your individual prowess. Because of that I say I want someone that can recruit players and coaches and lead a team

As an LSU fan, I’m warning you, don’t go down this road. Don’t accept “competent” offense based on stats. If you look at our ppg over the past decade it isn’t terrible. But look at our inability to beat teams with equal talent consistently.

If you are not a blue blood you have to choose A. Here’s why: the QB position is so valuable that a great QB alone talent wise is worth 10 4-5 star players. He elevates everyone And even brings the defense the focus to buckle down and get stops to give him the bell again.

When you have an offensive coach you guarantee that QB and therein the system will have continuity for his whole career. As we experienced with Odom, when you aren’t a blue blood you just can’t keep good offensive coordinators around for but 2 years if lucky. Lock had all world talent but 3 offensive coordinators.

The only exception is if you are a blue blood or for some reason can keep your great offensive coordinator content and not jump ship which is insanely rare.

Yeah you know it’s changed but still got to be able to tackle. You look back a couple years ago the Bentley kid at Carolina torched Clemson for 500 yards. Well Clemson was out of position a lot and you have to give Bentley credit he found the openings and made them pay. Guy played great that night. Few weeks later Clemson holds Bama to 16. Last week Bama shuts out Georgia in the second half. There are a lot of reasons why teams my give up points and when it’s correctable you’re fine. If not then yeah you better go get some players . And again you play more snaps you’re going to give up more. If you’re playing more snaps because you’re offense is scoring quick that’s part of it as long as you get a few stops and win.

Time of possession has become more important than ever. In a shootout the team who has the ball last often wins. I think we will start seeing more ball control from Alabama after a few quick scores from Smith and Waddle.

This if I'm at a top tier school. Makes it easier to replace the OC/DC when they have success and leave.

Got to go with A for most other schools

This would be my answer but I would rather have an OC who runs a multiple offense. Since that is not a choice, I’d go with A and hire an elite DC and have the DC have full control.

A coach told me a long time ago, always go offense. Doesn’t matter how good your defense is if you can’t put points on the board. Much less if you give up a defensive score or special teams makes a big play.
