I think he was aware of how to at LSU and danced around the edges, but when he went back to college, he eventually gave in, didn't get in trouble, and went in deeper.
Remember that early stretch of success he had, followed by a 3 loss season, and then things went light's out great? That's when he began getting dirty.

I'm not sure that he personally cheated at any of the two. This is about some serious money....not a few envelopes of cash.
Now, if he (or any coach) was arranging for bad loans so that some of these recruits could have their Chargers, Challengers , etc. that could be a problem, but that's all I can see in terms of a threat to a football program right now.....unless....unless the Adidas/Nike/Under Armor corruption has spread to the 7 on 7 scene to the extent it has been alleged in basketball.
If it has....Alabama will be in the same boat as most of the P5 programs.

All programs rise and fall. Some rise high, some rise just a little, but they all fall sooner or later. Dominance cant be sustained.
Except for being the best at losing, (Kentucky, Vanderbuilt, Missouri.)
Saban will eventually leave, and Bama will have some bad years.
Florida will see the good ole days again
LSU will see the good days also
Georgia will make a quick trip to the top for a one time gig in the near future and then crawl back into the SEC East cave
