Honestly, there isn't a rival fan on this board who has a bead on Auburn like RT1941 does. He seems to know more than a lot of our fans. He's just calling it like it is.

If he knows anything about AU under Dye he would know the coach the players went to for financial help. I will see if he posts it. I will confirm if he is correct.

Malzahn, with prompting from Jimmy Sexton bent Auburn over a barrel using threats of Arkansas, comical. The AU Admin/PTB allowed themselves to be screwed in the arse.

I wish they had just called his bluff. Arkansas fans may correct me, but I can't imagine they would have paid Malzahn anywhere close to what that extension was (if they would've hired him at all). He would've fractured that fanbase even worse.

I think the whole thing was a bluff created by Sexton, Arkansas (under that idiot Jeff Long) wouldn't pay CGM what Auburn would.

Looking back, Gus had to have always felt like he was on the hot seat at AU. Rumors swirled annually about his job and AU beat writers didn't help things. In the wake of the Jeremy Johnson experiment things got dicey. Gus wanted job security and he thought forcing Auburn to $49M guaranteed would quell the annual firing rumors. He used the Arkansas job as leverage as Bert went crashing down. Gus literally made Steven Leath & AU BOT ink that deal before the SECCG.

Sexton provided the Arkansas fodder by heating up the airwaves for 2-3 weeks while Gus did his part and beat the #1 & #2 teams back to back. The timing couldn't have been better to get what they wanted.

Only to go on and lose that game, plus the bowl to UCF to make it all the more ridiculous. What a great ROI.

Dye had Wayne Hall passing out the money.
HONEST FACT:
Wayne Hall owes ME money from a "beer joint bet" that he literally sneaked out the backdoor on!

We didn’t just lose that SECCG to UGA, we got blown-out.

We are all aware of what a stupid deal it was. Luckily Leath and Jacobs are gone. But Herbert was a part of that and still there

I was a mere child in CPD's era, I know nothing of AU's dysfunction back then.

Wasn't dysfunction, system learned by Dye from Bryant. Only difference in the two systems was Logan Young. It hurt Bama in the long run.

Tell us these other sources. I know the system in place and my guess is there are other here who also knew it. It wasn't evil and most of the coaches who participate did it as a way to provide the student athlete the basics that the NCAA refused to provide. But keep on with your redneck and ignorant beliefs.

You, reddog and airbnb (coachcrisp) are posters who pretend to be knowledgeable about Auburn, but when confronted you just melt in the post with some "look there is Elvis" response.

Hmmm... it seems like there's some other poster that could be added to this list, but I am struggling to remember their name... I think it starts with an I, maybe? Icons? Ironic? I don't know, it's something like that. And then something about a muppet.

Sorry moron, I don't back down on any post. I tell you what I know and if I post it then it is the truth. Unlike Cult members I am critical of my own team, but I also am critical of the lies other fanbases put out.

IIRC, Malzahn was a very polarizing guy when he was at Arkansas in the 2006 season but it was hard to tell how much of that was Malzahn, the Springdale HS players' families, Nutt, something else, or some combination.

I think a good 30 for 30 would be covering Malzahn and the Springdale kids from December 9, 2005 (when Malzahn was named OC at Arkansas) to December 28, 2008 (when Malzahn went to be OC at Auburn).

Gus was never a problem at Auburn. His biggest problem was his passive approach to coaching and the coaches he hired from time to time. On the offensive side of the ball, he believed in his system over coaching up players and developing them. It worked when he had a QB, but he couldn't develop QBs. He let the Defensive guys do their jobs, and most of them were old school. Gus was well liked and really not resented today.
