I guess you must actually be correct for once, since I don't see anyone circling their wagons around you.

They're living through what feels like a never ending cycle of blah like we did in the 2000s. Unlike then, the sport itself is not nearly as fun or likeable in general.

They'll pay attention, but they won't get fully invested unless Harsin starts off 4-1 or 5-0 (which is possible).

Unlike a Cult, it is every man for themselves. Which is a true sign of truth vs approved mantra.

The blah has very little to do with what is happening on the field or the AD. Like most CF fans feel, the game has become a money driven sport that has taken the excitement of the game out of the equation . Money has always been an issue, but the build ups for Saturday's is just a mundane experience of channel surfing. Covid changed the game because it allowed the Fall to be something other than life built around Saturdays. The only way CF recovers if they bring back a March Madness type excitement to the CFP, where regular season games actually effect the playoff. A Bowls are fun to watch.

What's so stupid about this that you don't get is that pat dye and his paying players is the only reason you ever became even slightly competitive.

It's a speech that was given in 2002 by their then-AD, David Housel. I didn't even post the whole thing. It gets worse. Go here if you want to read the rest.

Nice save.

Comparing the Iron Bowl to WWII and Vietnam. Multiple times. Wow. The only thing scarier than that transcript are the comments by Auburn fans below it writing poetry and agreeing with him.

Which fanbase is the cult again, Iron Suckit?

The game has come down to a few teams being in a beauty contest.

So this mythical beauty pageant is the reason Auburn sucks? Got it

Saban references 9/11, Pearl Harbor as examples

quote:

Coach Nick Saban described the humbling defeat in almost apocalyptic terms Monday, mentioning the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor in talking about how his team must rebound like America did from a "catastrophic event." "Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event," Saban said. "It may be 9/11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, and that was a catastrophic event."

When I started this thread I was only hoping for a couple of pages at most, with hopefully a few laugh-worthy replies thrown in there somewhere. It has grown far beyond my wildest dreams. Most of the AU posters on here are actually fairly level-headed, but there are a few - well, really just one or two in particular - who simply will not stop rising to the bait, over and over, no matter how obvious you make the hook, or how many previous baits they already have in their mouths.

I used to be a fan of the game and enjoyed watching the Bowls regardless of who was playing. Now the CPF is a beauty contest, and the Bowls are like watching a Spring Game.

You are an abject, bitter fool if you really think that the bowl system was a better selector of the national champion than the current system.

You are also wrong to suggest that a team should be eliminated from contention if they lose a game or play a close game to ordinary teams.

Well how about AU in 2010:
Beat MSU by 3
Beat a 6-7 Clemson team in OT, at J-H
Beat a 6-7 Kentucky team 37-34
Beat the worst SEC team to ever appear in an SECC game, 9-5 So Carolina, to win the SEC.

Didn't face a top 5 team all year until the NC game vs big, bad Oregon, who you beat on a late FG.

Or take 2013 AU who, like 2021 Alabama, lost in the NC game:
Beat a 6-7 WSU team by 1 score at home.
Beat a 7-6 MSU by 4 at home
Got pummeled by a 10-3 LSU team (a loss)
Beat a 4 loss OM team by 1 score at home.
Beat a 5 loss A&M team by 4.

But you criticize Bama for barely beating an AU team on the road with 85K stark-raving mad fans, half of whom sacrificed their first born for the sake of a win which they failed to get.

Who should have been in the CFP ahead of Alabama or UGA or Mich, all of whom lost a game? The truth is that Cinn, the only team to be undefeated was the least qualified and was toyed with in their CFP game.

Your envy and bitterness have blinded you, as well as made you a hypocrite.

The NCs earned during the BCS and CFP eras have taken far more effort than prior - 15 games now vs 8-11. And if you come out of the SEC West like Alabama, LSU and AU, you've typically run a tough gauntlet and suffered numerous injuries.

Btw, 25 NCs during the poll only era 1936-1997, prior to the BCS, went to a team who had a blemish, while playing far less demanding of a schedule than NCs do today, who have to end the season by play 2 top 4 teams.

Bama has won as many SECCs (8) in the 49 SEC years without Bryant or Saban as AU has won in their 89 year SEC history. And also have just as many NCs (2) in those 49 years, as Auburn has, as well as 3 pre-SEC and 12 more during the Bryant and Saban epochs.

They've won 21 more SECCs during the 40 years (and counting) of the Bryant & Saban eras, as Alabama elevated the careers of both; who were very good before, but became transcendent at Alabama. And Bama won 4 NCs prior to Bryant, putting the South on the football map.

The excitement is out of the game for you because AU is a dead program with no present prospects for success. For the rest of the nation the game has never had such attention.

Dye copied what he learned from Bryant. The only difference is Dye didn't pay recruits, he had a system to pay current players in need, it didn't make them more competitive. Only dumbass Bammers think that is the same.
