I was busy and not able to address this earlier.
No adult was charged with anything. This was a 14 year old kid who was accused of doing something when he was 11-12 years old.
You wouldn't be fighting for your innocence. You would be putting you child's future in the hands of a trial jury. Would you be willing to watch your child get grilled and bet on him not saying the wrong thing that would get him a guilty verdict? Or would you sign the first thing that your own legal advisor offered to make the whole thing go away quickly?
Again, I have no idea about what the kid did or didn't do. But I don't blame the parents for doing what they did

I'd have my kid fight tooth and nail for his innocence, and I would never be so foolish as to think the best legal advice and quickest way to make a problem disappear is to plead guilty to molesting his niece if I really believe he is innocent. The only chance in hell I'm having my son plead guilty to this is if I know 100% he did it. Others may not agree, but it's my opinion that is just the explanation for the guilty plea his parents came up with when this went public after they never expected it to

That's one of the main reasons I don't believe he only plead guilty just to make it go away. The stakes are a lot lower for a juvenile than they would be for an adult going to trial

That's a great point.
Like I said earlier. No winners in the whole thing

The whole incident stemmed from a crazy sister-in-law threatening to ruin the entire family and wanting a divorce.
I believe he is guilty. No one has provided a plausible explanation for why his brother (the girls father) hasn't spoken to him since. It would seem to me, if the guys crazy ex wife was the cause of all this, the husband/brother would be in the position to know it better than anyone. I would think he would sympathize with his brother getting railroaded and at least speak to him in the following five years, which Luke indicated he has not in an interview. I think everything that has come out after this being discovered has been a smoke screen because they never thought it would come out, and they didnt realize at the time that it might cost him 100's of millions of dollars.

OP here.
I asked a simple question with absolutely no ulterior motive.
Turned into 80+ posts on this thread. The kid sure is a lighting rod.

According to The Oregonian, court documents say the first time Heimlich molested the family member she was only four, and the last time came when she was six. In his guilty plea, Heimlich wrote, "I admit that I had sexual contact" with the girl, according to The Oregonian.
He was sentenced to 40 weeks at Washington's Juvenile Rehabilitation authority, but court records says he didn't serve any time because the sentence was suspended after he completed two years of probation, according to The Oregonian. Additionally, Heimlich entered a diversion program, attended sex offender treatment for two years and registered as a Level 1 sex offender meaning he was the lowest risk to the community and his likelihood to re-offend was considered minimal, according to The Oregonian.
Heimlich's case came to light after he failed to update with the registry. It is unclear just how much or how many people at Oregon State knew about the case prior to Heimlich joining the team in 2014, but the school is supposed to keep a list of all registered sex offenders who are attending, according to The Oregonian.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Heimlich denied touching the girl.
"I pled guily to it," Heimlich said of the child molestation charge. "But ever since that day and even before that, in court records and everything, I've denied ever committing the offense. I stand by that."
