Rivalry is a strong word for what we got here.
MSU hates our guts, and are an amazingly annoying fan base. They are more desperate to turn this into a rivalry, more than Arky, well with any team.
Auburn could honestly care less about MSU, except that they keep trying to come eat at the big boys table.

It wasn't the dropped pass that got us - we had a sure pick 6 hit our guy in the numbers and he dropped it. That was the game.
It's the fact that we were just a hair away from a win 3 of the past 4 years (dropped pick 6, goal line stand, missed field goal) that has all of our jimmies so very rustled.
Also, half the reason there's so much smack talk is that Coonass begs for it on a regular basis.

Being fair, at times we act like dicks unnecessarily to them
I think a lot fo it is backlash for coonass and bundy who just thorw shite at the wall and see what sticks.

Most definitely Camgate.
Before that, Auburn was probably one of State fans' favorite non-MSU schools. Both Southeastern Engineering/Ag/Vet schools, etc.
