That would have made for an interesting interview. He clearly wasn't an LSU fan in 2005.

I'm the delusional one? Look guy, L6U is going to have some serious rebuilding seasons to get back to where they want to be.

Gundy's recruiting is pretty underwhelming for that price tag. He is a better coach than O but I am not sure he is worth $6 million a year. It was pretty much the problem with every candidate that wasn't Herman. There were a bunch of folks that would probably be fine but you would have had to dramatically overpay them and you were not guaranteed that you would get better results than the guy you could pay $3.5 million who could keep your staff and recruiting class together.

He is at Oklahoma STATE. And he has a top team every year.

Wisconsin - Serious rebuilding to win that game?
Auburn - Serious rebuilding to win that game?
Florida - Serious rebuilding to win that game?

They routed everyone else besides Bama. Win those 3 and LSU is in the playoff.

That isn't clear from a roster perspective at all.

So when did Ole Miss beat LSU 6 in a row?

That term should only be reserved for a team that has and is currently on a streak against LSU. Bama is the only one that has rights to that term. Unless of course you received their permission.

Yah, let's hire a guy with the opposite problem of Les Miles. Sure he fields a good passing team, but they don't run the ball so well, nor do they have an SEC caliber Defense.

No Thank You

And he doesn't recruit much better than Oklahoma State usually does. He is a good coach but being an elite recruiter is kind of a requirement for LSU. Maybe he is just being held back by the institution but, again, all I am saying is there were question marks with everyone but Herman making a $6 million a year investment probably not worth the cost.

His best option was Orgeron at $3.5M/yr and go after the best coordinators in football. We will see how that plan works out, but so far so good.

OK, then, here's my final opinion. I have concluded, after reading the Tiger Rant and the SEC Rant, that the only football coach at any level in the entire USA, including all position coaches, that wanted to be HC at LSU is Ed Orgeron.

ONE GUY in the whole country wanted the job. NOBODY else.

WOW. LSU must really really SUCK.

Truth is LSU is the only SEC school that hasn't accepted its fate and is still fighting like hell to compete with Alabama.
your head coaching hire speaks otherwise.

If Lsu was serious about competing against Alabama, they would've paid Jimbo whatever, just as we did Saban.

They'll pay Aranda and Kiffin whatever and O will get the boys foaming at the mouth on gameday.

Honestly I was afraid if they got rid of miles they would get a really good coach with the built in recruiting they have down there. Glad their AD was cheap and didn't go for the homerun they could have. The SEC wasn't strong when O was at ole miss and he still failed

Gumps always seem to talk about LSU. Like they have some sort of perverted fixation on the team.

Uhm, I am pretty sure he was packing that U-Haul in Miami after that NFL coaching debacle. Congrats on the greatest coaching hire in the modern era of CFB.

3rd best program in the SEC behind Alabama and Florida.

Good post, props to Bama better than any program in the country. Florida has struggled last 5 years or so but over the last 15 years you post is very accurate.

LSU since year 2000 is in the top 10 programs in the country

BAMA first

in no order
Florida, LSU, USC, Ohio State, Auburn, Oregon, Florida State, Texas, Michigan

Others in the same breath, Oklahoma, Notre Dame

Others with a lot of wins but soft schedules, TCU, Boise State,

If I left someone out sorry but hate admit BAMA is head and shoulder above everyone else. 2nd through 15 are simply debatable.
