Sure. I won’t say that’s not a massive black eye, one that will likely keep Bama out.
But BYU hasn’t beaten a team that is currently ranked. Bama has beaten 4 in the top 16. That’s just a non-issue when we compare these two teams? Given all of the above, one extra loss gives BYU the nod over Bama?

BYU didn't beat current #3 Georgia in Athens on Sept 27 like Alabama did - start there -
