After 2012, 2013, or 2014?

I understand he is in a very rough situation roster wise, and is doing a solid job on the recruiting trail, but he is possibly the worst gameday coach I've ever seen.

His use of timeouts, failure to understand when to kick it and when to go for it, his jerking around of the quarterbacks, and his god awful halftime adjustments are an absolute joke.

He is safe this year, and he gets Bray and Hunter back next year, so I'll go with 2013 or 2014, depending on when Bray leaves.

I somewhat agree about the gameday coach comment. However, his hands are somewhat tied due to the roster.

It's hard to tell if he is a bad gameday coach or the fact that lack of depth is killing you guys.

You play everyone close the first half, which is a great thing IMO. When you're outmanned, have less talent, etc.

However, you guys get tired due to lack of depth and it's all down hill from there.

Also, your team is incredibly young. So, I don't know what to think.

Dooley is god awful on gamedays. He is 0-22 in his career when tied or trailing at the half. He just makes random decisions with timeouts, onside kicks, who to play at QB, etc.

Last night's display takes the cake. I have tried to block out 2005-2008, but I can't remember a worse coached game at Tenneseee in the last 20 years than Dooley coached last night. Just gave the game away.

Why are you talking about Dooley being fired already? He has one of the youngest defenses in the nation, without a QB, roster problems from past bad coaching, etc etc etc. If you step back and take a look at the problems UT has you'll see Dooley didn't stand much of a chance to succeed in his early years.

I think he's gone after next season if Tennessee finishes 4th or 5th in the east again. I don't think the AD or alumni will be patient enough to give Dooley time to turn it around.

Not sure, appears to be a mess up there in TN. Kiffen really did a number on that program.

Dooley had plenty chance to succeed last night. It was a game that was butchered by Dooley. I am not expecting him to be anything more than competitive every now and then. He is simply not a competent coach.

Kiffin had nothing to do with last night's clusterfrick.

Yea, I saw that last night during the game. But honestly, has he had the talent to dig himself out of a hole and come back to win ?

I've watched 3 full UT games this year. UT v UF, UT v 'Bama, UT v SCAR. I would agree and say that some of the 4th and 1 calls were awful. Like the 4th and 1 call at 'Bama.

Last night when it was 4th and 1 at midfield. I thought he should have went for it. It's 1 yard, I THINK you were tired or losing by a TD at the time, and you are playing at Neyland. Why not.

I think there are some crappy coaches on the staff though. Charlie Baggett is the best position coach on the staff.

I like that play he runs sometimes with an extra man or two.

Baggett imo is the best WR coach in the nation.

Mark Ingram Sr.
Plaxico Burress
Muhsin Muhammad
Derrick Mason
Courtney Hawkins
Antonio Freeman

This is what he can sell to recruits.

Sirmon and Wilcox are very solid as well. The rest of the staff is very questionable.

Dooley may not make it 5 more years, but in the short term it is not his fault that UT's 2 best offensive weapons got hurt, their "best" remaining WR can't catch TD passes, or that he inheritted a depleted roster.

He may not be the best gameday coach, neither was Shula, but Shula didn't recruit as well as Dooley is, and Shula managed a 10 win season. The next 2-3 years will be interesting on Rocky Top.

If he wants to stay he needs to make some staff adjustments this offseason.

Hiestand has to go. His unit has regressed in two years. Chaney needs to be evaluated. His playcalling has been atrocious. Wilcox has a bye due to youth and lack of talent. We need to get a RB coach.

Wilcox's scheme is pretty good imo. The defense is getting better and better week to week.

Joseph needs to go as well imo.

Why are you asking us? Aren't you supposed to be the authority on your own team?

In all seriousness, I think he's got two more years at least to right the ship.

Again his lack of talent is noticeable.

CB is below average group. Waggner and Coleman are the best ones.

Safety is requiring a baseball player, juco and rod wilks to play.

Tennessee had no way to win that game -- unless USC gave it to them with turnovers; which we almost did. The fact the Vols were unable to manage more than a field goal shows how bad their offense is without Bray. And you have to give a lot of credit to USC's defense.

The bigger problem for Dooley is recruiting. He recruits decently well -- but not as well as he needs to for Tennessee to become a powerhouse again. The recruiting advantage Tennessee had years ago when on the traditional teams were on TV has evaporated. They can't overcome the lack of in-state talent. They will never again consistently match UGA and UF in the East, nor will they match USC so long as Spurrier is there.

Dooley cannot make up for the talent gap with coaching or scheme -- in fact, his scheme requires his talent to be as good or better than the opposition.

See, I have trouble with this logic, if for no reason other than the 2007 'Bama team.

Is it a matter of Dooley's gameday coaching, or a matter of the players responding to him? I mean, sure, Saban got it turned around in pretty short order, but the mess Dooley inherited is different in some key ways from the mess Saban inherited, and your mileage may vary.

I think it's no secret among the Vol fans on here that I want Dooley to succeed and, in that regard, I want Tennessee to succeed.

I'm not saying give him carte blanche and as much time as he wants to get things going in the right direction, but at least enough time to mold the team's personality in his vision.

As much as it makes part of me want to vomit for saying it, good luck Vols.
