What makes Saban so much better at player development than all other coaches?

He obviously gets talent, but he develops the hell out of it.
Even his 3 star guys’ games elevate to elite levels.
Is it the deer antler spray?

He also gets five stars than don’t pan out, like everyone else. It’s a lot easier to develop talent when you roster is loaded with it.
I think the man is tGOAT but let’s not act like he didn’t have the most ridiculous stretch of recruiting we’ve ever seen.

Do other coaches not have access to this spray?

Bama’s 5-stars bust far less than any other teams’.
I saw a stat once that was shocking. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

quote:Doesn't matter the star rating. If you want to see the field at Bama, you have to eventually play at a 5 star level or your arse is on the bench. The 3 stars that sign on for Bama know this and are surrounded by competition that will push them. If they don't have the heart, they get processed.

Exactly. A five star at another school thinks he’s the crap. A five star at bama is just another guy and is having to beat out 3 more guys that were ranked just as high.

No
The formulation used by Bama is proprietary and is developed by the Ammer Foundation for Deer Antler Spray Research. It has been extensively tested and modified.

Driving a free Dodge Charger just makes you a better football player

I watched the game with my brother-n-law and two female nurses who barely watch football.
They both commented on how bama plays like they are on some kind of drug. They asked why do they play like they are all in a violent rage. Are they on steroids?
I actually have a more nuanced opinion. They are most definitely on something that other teams aren't using or they are using double doses. But they also take on the personality of their coach who is an angry little man. So its like watching big strong world class athletes who play with all the rage of a 5'6 man with a 5 inch penis who is angry at the world.

Yeah at a much lower rate. Nationally about 50% of all 5 stars get drafted. 22/28 draft eligible 5 stars for Saban's Alabama have been drafted; 14 of those were first round picks, the national rate for that is ~17%.
Numbers are from a few years ago but I doubt there's been much change.

Coach Saban apparently has a unique and semi-proprietary method of evaluating recruits. This was mentioned when he alluded to coaches leaving his employ to coach elsewhere, and taking his system of evaluation with them.
If you had a way of testing a recruit to see the level of his physical and or mental maturity, you could do a lot of things with lesser ranked recruits. But beyond that, read Clinton-Dix's comments on "the process." It is enlightening.

In the series of videos prior to the season that showed the Bama practices, I was amazed at how organized and intense the Bama practices were. Saban was on top of every detail and made the players and coaches get it right.
Of course, having top talent is key, but getting everybody on the same page and executing things in a manner that gives you the best chance of success is what sets Saban apart from most coaches. IMO
