Auburn wasn’t getting in over USC or Oklahoma in 2004. They may have deserved to, but there wasn’t any serious chance of it happening.
Not beating the hell out of VT in the bowl game didn’t strengthen the argument, and you saw what USC did to Oklahoma...Auburn would have faced a similar fate.
