At my campus (UT Arlington) the oddest looking building is the one for the Nursing school. It is a triangular-shaped building (on a campus where every other building is rectangular in some form or fashion).

Probably the Melton Observatory. Never seen anyone go in it. And it is oddly placed in between the student union and a couple of other college buildings.

I dont really McCool, The building across the junction, and the math building. They jsut dont fit in. Also the library really doesnt fit with the theme of the other drill field buildings.

This has to take the cake for weirdest. Soon to be campus used and former mental hospital. Bryce FTW!
While the main building will stand, the other buildings on the grounds will be torn down. Future site of haunted dorms and athletic facilities for swimming/diving and baseball.

Lowder Business Building....the story is that the designer of the building and Bobby Lowder didn't see eye-to-eye on certain thing (imagine that) so the designer made a giant penis out of the windows......could be true, could be a myth, regardless it looks like a giant dick.

Observatories are cool as hell and should never be messed with. They are also usually some of the oldest building on campus. No new observatories being built, LOL. They are a product of a bygone era. Ole Miss had an observatory that used to be used as a morgue during the civil war, any Bears know if it is still there. They also did some magnetic research in the building because it was neutral polarity. Lead walls and stuff.

We have two observatories on our campus. One kind of looks like the South Carolina one. Barnard Observatory is the big one. It was built to house the largest telescope of it's time during the 1800s....but during the Civil War something kept it from getting to Oxford and it ended up in Chicago. Something like that.
Not sure on the morgue thing. I know our Journalism building was used as the morgue during the Civil War. I'd have to look into that. I should have read all the historic marker signs outside the buildings. But that building now has classrooms and stuff in it. The very top has a meeting room/classroom. It looks like something out of Harry Potter.

Yeah the Melton Observatory has been around since 1928, according to its page on SC.edu, we had an observatory before Melton, but during the Civil War all the equipment was stolen (presumably for the brass content) and was never used as a observatory again.

I call BS on that one...
As far as weirdest goes, UT's library takes the fricking cake!

Not sure about weired, but Rice and Lee Hall on MSU's campus are pretty cool. Lee Hall stays open all night, including the President's office. We would constantly break in there and sneak onto the roof....pretty cool.
Rice Hall (olds girls' dorms) have a cemetary tunnel underneathh. Always fun.

I specifically remember them referencing an observatory used as a morgue because the lead walls kept the temperature at a constant temp. Anyway, regardless of school affiliation, I am a fan of old history. Hell I have spent hours in the city cemetery in Natchez. One of the most historic cemeteries in the southeast and on par with St. Louis and Lafayette cemeteries in New Orleans.
ETA: It came to me while i rambled, they would bring ship's navagational compasses to the observatory and calibrate and test them because the lead walls wouldn't allow any magnetic interference.

Not really a building but this old smokestack is near our horseshoe. Would love to find out the history behind it, the fireplace at the bottom where I assume it used to get stoaked is sealed off and as you can see there is a "THE" on top of that USC that seems to have long since faded.

Barnard Observatory always had this black/white cutout of Elvis looking out a window. It always creeped me out when I would walk by and catch a glimpse of Elvis.

Reading Greg Iles has always made me want to visit Natchez.

Its a beautiful city. Thank God Natchez and Vicksburg both are bluff cities so the flooding won't reach the nice parts mostly. I know the medical complex across the river in Ferriday is already flooding. I was in Vicksburg Monday and took some good picks of the train depot that is now flooding on the first floor.

I've never been to Natchez. Lived in Mississippi all those years, and I never made it down there. I'd like to go.
