After reading this thread, I hear NASA is planning to relocate the NASA Mission Control and entire Space Center to St. Louis and the Marshall Space Flight Center from Bama to some place "real north" like Cleveland.
NASA has entered the portal?

You can add Eudora Welty, Willie Morris, Robert Penn Warren, and a host of other writers, as well as too many music super stars to name in every genre of music, both American and classical. The first human lung transplant. The second modern civil code in the world and the first drafted in English.
And if we go back a way, the Declaration of Independence was primarily written by a Southerner, a major drafter of the Constitution was a Southerner, the commander in chief of the Revolutionary Army and first President was a Southerner.

I say old boy, do you actually mean to pose the question, "What has the South really given us?"
I personally would submit;
1. Some of our universities teach proper English.

Jefferson gets credit but Richard Henry Lee did much of the work and was supposed to present it but got called home due to his wife being sick. He was the author of the Lee Resolution which was accepted by congress and declared independence. He wrote much of the Declaration which was what was presented to the king and had he not been called away the clause that he wrote that included charging the King for foisting slavery on the colonies would have been kept. Jefferson took up where Lee left off but didn’t think he could get Lee’s version through. Richard Henry Lee though was seen as the only one who had the gravitas and pull to get southerners to sign off on this because it would’ve been a step toward ending slavery and would have prevented it’s enshrinement in the newly formed nation. And yeah, another southerner.

If the South sucks so bad then why have yankee aggressors insisted on occupying it for over 150 years now?

Well that one is easy. I love my Deep South brethren but some of y’all refused to learn how to behave until around the mid 90s and all of us still know people or areas that refuse to. With that being said, it’s rather annoying that outsiders never see the beams in their own eyes. Take Missouri which has an absolutely horrific record on race and civil rights. They are up there with anything the South has and have even worse.

The entire country gets its food and consumer goods from foreign imports. The state none of us can survive without is China.
