Really? I always assumed it was mostly kids from suburban STL and KC. A&M is about as conservative as a major university gets and gets the white rural stereotype but in reality most kids are from suburban Houston, Dallas, San Antonio or Austin

My roommates' family was affluent, and her sister was very smart, but she was a bit of a rebellious person and definitely into grunge. My roommate, on the other hand, was more of the limo liberal.

Actually, I enjoyed my last trip thru there a lot. Saw some pretty houses, lake, ate some really tasty aged hog with good sauce. Not a bad area even with the Bowedshemans out running around..

Yes, it is very nice. I like it a lot. I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit. You'll have to go again.

Detroit agrees with this.

Aged hog, is that a specialty of that area?
I've never had it anywhere before, but it was good.

I am a USC grad...I'm white and from Columbia, SC, and I voted for Obama. Just thought I'd let people know that there are white people who like Obama. I consider myself a Moderate.

Yep, A&M is very conservative for such a large school but honestly it is more libertarian than truly conservative just as Texas is as a State. People just don't like big government around here, they tend to be entrepreneurial, and they like their guns and their freedom. They generally don't care about what other people do or think though. Still, there is some hard core social conservative types at A&M as well.

It still isn't as liberal as it once was though. No way you can be as big and diverse as A&M is now and be as conservative as it was as an all male segregated military school like it was up until the '50s.

I would bet that Auburn and State are right there conservative wise because they essentially started with a similar mission as the Ag and Engineering focused schools in their state while the Ole Miss and Bama focused more on liberal arts. If Clemson were in the SEC it would fit the same mold in comparison to USC.

I wouldn't go that far. Missouri is the definition of a "swing" state. One of each party for US Senate. Gov is a Dem and it voted the last two times for a Repub Pres. I'd say its about right in the middle.

Yeah Missouri is as middle as it gets. Just saying Missouri is by no means a liberal state

Florida. Who else has 100 yards of concrete wall along a busy off campus street, that kids are tagging night and day. 10 years ago the entire wall had a layer of paint 6 inches or thicker. I wonder how long my mural of Munson lasted

A moderate would not have voted for Obama the second time around, you are a liberal.

Do you know Rex? I don't know which school is most liberal but I'm guessing Florida.

Take my word for it, Vandy has the most liberal administration in the SEC, and I hate them for it. But the student-athletes and coaching staffs are not liberal. There is also a large minority of students and faculty who are not liberal. As for Nashville, it is 60% liberal and 40 conservative. But keep in mind our minority population is 37% and there is an avalanche of yankee transplants in this City. And being the seat of Tennessee government has drawn in liberals from across the State. The good news is that Obama only won 4 Tennessee counties out of 95 the last election.
