They are the shiny toy that everyone is talking about but how long does it last?
Everyone should agree that Bo Pelini did a really shitty job of adjusting to their game plan but I don’t think future DCs will make the same mistake.
Prediction - Moo State ends up 7-3/6-4.

Even as a State fan I'm not buying the Top 5 or Top 10 talk that you're seeing from some members of the national media. It's just a knee jerk reaction to one impressive game and not really considering the major defensive depth issues that State has. Someone is going to exploit that, perhaps multiple teams.
I would honestly take 6-4 and be just fine with it. State has finished above .500 in conference play a grand total of once since 1999. I'm not sure 5-5 is out of the question either. I would say 8-2 is the absolute ceiling to me and Leach should be national coach of the year if they do that. 7-3 would still be a fantastic year given what expectations were.
That said, I do think there are some games that most chalked up as probable losses that it now seems State has a very realistic chance to win. Kentucky and A&M for sure fit that bill in my opinion. Not ready to put Auburn and Georgia in that category yet but it may we worth reevaluating in a few weeks.
I think they beat Arkansas and then I just need to see what they do against Kentucky and A&M. There's still a whole lot up in the air at this moment, though Saturday was definitely a great start for State.

agreed 8-2 is a fantastic season. 7-3 is us winning every game we should win. 6-4 is also very possible and I wouldn’t be mad in the slightest.

Until we show we can beat Bama, I’ll never mark that as a win. Georgia kinda fits in the same-ish category in recent years. We’ve beaten all the others on our schedule in recent memory, with some under Moorhead. So I’d say ceiling of 8-2 until proven otherwise.

Pelini saw Leach twice at Texas Tech. There was nothing he hadn't already seen

I don’t know about our ceiling, but our floor includes beating Auburn.

Defensive coordinators have been watching Leach film for 20 years and can’t stop his offense. His OL at State is good enough to protect against anyone we play. State will lose some games but it won’t be because defensive coordinators figured something out that no one else has been able to for the past 2 decades. In the past teams like Washington have been able to rush 3 and drop 8 and get pressure because of the athletes he had at Washington State. That’s not going to happen with this team against anyone. Our defense is extremely thin and some teams will slow us down enough to outscore us. Ceiling is probably 8-2. 7-3 most likely outcome.

I think 8 wins is approaching Bobby Bowden deal making with the Devil.

Not really. We have beaten Auburn and A&M (the two toss-ups to make it happen) more than once in recent years. Bama and UGA are the only surprises if we win.

Well it’s the ceiling. I don’t expect us to beat Alabama or Georgia but we will be a pickem or favored against everyone else we play. If we win all the toss ups/favored games we will go 8-2. We probably won’t do 7-3 is most likely to me. 6-4 is also a possibility on the lower end. Of course a bad case of Covids for us or a team we play could change that.

I totally get it.
Ride that LSU win out for everything that it's worth.

You have nothing to add to the conversation. Did you watch the other teams on our schedule play? Auburn and Texas A&M didn’t look better than State and play us in Starkville. Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Vandy look like dog shite. If you are picking who wins those games after watching each team play after week 1 then MSU would be most people’s pick in nearly every one of those games. Things can change week to week but try watching football instead of looking at helmet stickers.

You think the teams you mentioned will stay stagnant?
Posted on 9/28/20 at 9:45 pm to ThaiTiger24
They’ll lose to Arkansas this weekend

You think that State won’t improve? We had 4 turnovers. Other teams aren’t the only ones who can and will improve.
