What if Tyrone Prothro doesn’t get hurt against Florida?

Does Alabama run the table and win the SEC in 2005? Does Shula get Tebow, survive 2006, and thus prevent Saban from coming to Tuscaloosa in 2007?

I wanted to ask a similar question in what would have happened if Alabama beat Oklahoma in 2003? Could Alabama have run the table or would it have been a fluke win and a losing season? That game was nerve racking. I was there. 20-13 was suspenseful.

The score was close but the game really never was in doubt. Oklahoma’s defense was just too good that night.

BAMA offense was completely lost once Pro went down.
I think they would have won the SEC in 05 with him.
Defense carried the team after his injury.
However, win the SEC in 05, I don't think we get the goat in 07.

That 2003 Alabama team lost 9 games. I don’t think they had the talent or coaching present to go on a big run, despite finishing 10-2 the year prior
An uncharacteristically close game for 2003 OU. The 2003 Sooners were very good, but a bit overrated. The 65-13 win over Texas helped their case, but I think the Big12 just wasn’t as good as it had been in the past.
They were extremely good in Norman though. And despite getting flattened in the Big12 championship, they had their chances to win against LSU in the NCG. Top 5 defense, Heisman winning QB.

Is there a more overrated player?
Dude never had over 350 receiving yards in a season. Only 2 career games of over 100 receiving yards. Only 3 career games with 5 or more catches.
One fluke catch against a shite opponent away from being a nobody.

Likely yes.
Likely no.
Shula probably gets another year, so the last bit on Saban is Likely yes, as well. But, happens with or without Tebow.

He was our offense against both South Carolina and Florida that year. The offense was designed to revolve around Prothro in 2005. This is a verifiable fact. Once he went down there was a marked change in production.

And Alabama had the #1 defense in all CFB too

He touched the ball 4 times, for -4 yards receiving and 64 yards rushing.

Yeah. Prothro way overrated. Chris Capps and that Britt boy having to play center in the lsu game was what killed 2005 for the Tide. keith brown and dj hall were better than prothro. he just added more wrinkles.

Are you really trying to argue that Tyrone Prothro wasn’t a large piece of the Alabama offense in 2005?

If the only he did was catch. Didn't make it 5 full games Jr year... was averaging 138.2 all purpose yards per game. That should be pretty respectable.

I said he was overrated, which he clearly was.

Based on what exactly? Some stats you pulled off google with no context?

Please, Cap, explain to me how fantastic his career was outside of 1 catch against Southern Miss and 1 game against Florida.
I’m all ears.

Isn’t the point of this thread a “what if”? Which is basically Prothro’s career in a nutshell. No one ITT was claiming he was a first round pick and Heisman material. But he was the focal point of an otherwise putrid Mike Shula and Dave Radar offense. And when he was injured, and just starting to break out as a player, the Alabama offense ceased have any explosiveness.
But here you come into the thread to make it known how overrated you think he is.

2005 season, BAMA offense averaged 30 pts a game, 5 games with Prothro.
BAMA offense only averaged 16 points a game once his career was ended.
Brodie/Pro had that chemistry especially, 3rd down 3-6 yards, keeping drives going.
