I disagree. Many have wanted him gone since the 2015 JJ mess. The plan against Clemson 2016 was another issue then LSU 2017. I tend to blame the players more than the coach. JJ failed, but JJ was the reason we missed on the better QB prospects and settled for SW. The OL has been crap since 2015, but in 2016 and 2017 it was especially bad against any team with a pulse along their DL. The offensive issues start with average to below average OL play. Add poor QB play into the mix and you get what we got.

You're right. It seems that after each loss for the last 2 years, the mob has stormed the sports boards condemning him...hell, they've even gotten after him when they've won ugly.

He's not a championship caliber coach, and Auburn could do much better.
He's already won an SEC Championship, and played for another.

Let's say we decide not to retain him after 2016, as your post implies we should have done. That means we pay his $9 million buyout and let Jay Jacobs pick his successor. Whom do you think we would have gotten?

I will always remember when he put JJ in when we were driving on Clemson in 2016 and he thew an interception on his first play in the game. Maybe it was his second play.

Either way, I got so exasperated I started to just laugh at the whole idea of being that angry at a football game.

When you put it like that....you've got a damn good point!

Nick Saban lost straight up to Kevin Sumlin. Nick Saban is still light years ahead of Sumlin and Malzahn is still light years ahead of Orgeron.

Fans will be Fans. How many Bama Fans complained about Saban playing Hurts all year. For the most part they would go after his Coordinators in years past, but the end of the season they started to turn on Saban. Decisions on Coaching hires are not based on Fan reactions.

So far he would get a B. He really needs to get a QB that fits his offense.

I'm gonna go back and research to see how many fans wanted to run him off over it.

Not run him off, but were bitching. Like I said , in years past the Coordinators took most of the heat from the fans, but many started bitching toward Saban. It surprised me also, I figured he would be immuned . But I guess you are going to deny that happened.

Auburn fans have been talking about RUNNING GUS OFF for two years!...not just complaining about one thing or another....you got a REAL problem with perspective when it comes to Auburn and the rest of the world. Have all the years of being teased and looked upon as a "little brother" caused this?...if not, what has?
Also, EVERY Alabama fan knows who calls the shots regarding the football team. Any coordinator is simply doing things as Saban wants them to be done...no illusions there! Because many fans want a different decision on something made at times, doesn't mean they blame the coordinator or want Saban fired. To try to parallel the Auburn fan base's feelings toward Gus and Alabama's toward Saban is not only extremely stupid, but borders on delusional!...and you wonder why folks around here take you with a grain of salt.

I thought you were referencing doing research about running Saban off. Gus was very close to being ran off last year, but like I said, his resume after the Bama Game was better than any other Coach in the SEC not named Saban.

My point is fans are DAs. They were bitching about Saban and how he was playing Hurts. In prior years they would express their frustrations toward the Coordinators, but last year your heard comments toward Saban. Fans will be Fans, and they will also pretend that they didn't act foolishly (see your last post).

He did win an SECC. I'll give you that, but he had an embarrassing gameplan in the SECC this past year.

I don't have any faith that he would've done it, but Chip Kelly was available. But we are also talking about JJ, that passed on Gary Patterson for Gene Chizik.

There's never been a coach in history that wasn't 2nd guessed by some fan, somewhere. There's a world of difference. Hell, I begged for Tua myself, but never entertained thoughts of running Saban off over it. There's a HUGE difference between discourse over coaching strategy and firing your coach...surely you realize that.

Nobody said that Alabama was trying to run him off, but the fact that fans were criticizing him shows they are just as ignorant as any fanbase. They ran Shula, Dubose, Fran and Curry off. And most people believe they ran Stallings off and his resume was better than Gus's. The Saban Era has Bama fans suffering from selective amnesia.

WOW! The buck stops with the HC, all the blame lays on the shoulders of the HC. In the last 6-8 yrs, AU has recruited better than ever in their history. They've hauled in talent ranked inside the top 10 for years. I fail to see how talent at that level should be blamed for 22 loses in 5 seasons and a bowl record of 1-4?

Those are his players, running his schemes, lead by his coordinators. CGM has demonstrated poor player development, a lack of having his players prepared, an inability to have a "Plan B" when a key player goes down which is poor roster management, questionable to down right idiotic play calling, head scratching in-game decision making, an inability to adjust when his scripted game plan isn't working along with an enormous amount of stubbornness coupled with a total lack of trust from his own staffers and players. AU fans have had every right to be irritated, frustrated and down right pissed off with the man in charge, certainly NOT the players.

I'd really like to downvote this - but it's pretty spot on.
