Frank Broyles was AD at Arkansas from 1976 to 2007 - 31 years.
In those 31 years Arkansas won zero football national championships, zero baseball championships, and one basketball championship. And the coach who won the national championship sued Arkansas in federal court for racism.
A school going 31 years with one national championship in football, baseball, and basketball is underwhelming.
He won a national championship in football as a coach in less time. Thus it appears he was a better football coach than AD.

I always thought Mack Brown would have been an excellent AD.

Your OP title asked “coaches that bombed as AD”. I definitely would not say he bombed by any means. Your point on baseball and football NC’s is understood and I agree to an extent but the lack of those does not define his career. He certainly wasn’t perfect though. But who is?
As for the lawsuit, he lost it in the original case and in the appeal. But, yeah, the AD that made him the first black coach at a predominantly white Southern university was racist. Tempers flared, he was angry, and at the time he saw it how he saw it. Can’t blame him for all he put up with as a young man.
