He doesn't post often, but I seem to remember him as a fairly solid poster. Maybe I misremembered.

He's destroyed something that is irreplaceable. That should certainly be factored into the sentencing. He didn't just illegally poison trees, he poisoned trees that have significant meaning for a substantial group of people. There's a difference. There's a difference between ripping up a piece of loose-leaf paper and ripping up the Composition Draft of the Declaration of Independence, even though both are inanimate. There's a difference in throwing paint on someone's fur coat and throwing paint on the Mona Lisa. There would be a difference between busting up the sidewalk in front of my house and busting up the handprints on the Walk of Champions. When you destroy something that's irreplaceable and meaningful, it goes beyond simple vandalism and mischief. Add to that the fact that he put poisonous chemicals into the ground without knowing what the hell he was doing, and I'm all for the guy serving a couple of years in jail, along with fines, restitution, and not being allowed anywhere near college football. Frick that guy. Seriously. And, honestly, frick anyone who says what he did "isn't that bad."
Excellent Post

Probably is...just giving him a little shite to go along with my other post applauding him.

How is it you have an ATPB join date, yet a post as solid as this?
Valid question. I think I posted all of once or twice in ATPB, and that was to laugh at what was going on there, from all sides. It was a clusterfrick, but an amazing clusterfrick. I had been lurking TD for a while. I just happened to joined then. I've been living with the shame of my join date ever since, but that's ok. It keeps me humble.
Back to the subject - Also, any Bama fan who acts like they wouldn't care if someone busted up the captains' handprints on the WoC is full of shite. I remember putting my hands in those prints when I was a kid. I have pictures of my daughter doing the same. If someone busted those up, I'd be howling for blood. Any Bama fan that says they wouldn't is either lying, or has never set foot on campus. (or maybe it just doesn't mean that much to them, but I'm dealing in ABSOLUTES, damnit).
Some THINGS are important. I have stuff that means something to me. You could steal almost anything in my house and get forgiven, but if you broke one or two things that might not seem that big of a deal, you're likely to get your arse kicked.

If he were to claim he was mentally unstable, a psychiatric evaluation would put that to rest. Updyke fuuuuucked

Should I read this thread or would I end up running around flailing my arms and shouting?

Are you equating Toomer's Oaks to the Mona Lisa and the Declaration of Independence?

How do you not understand that the crime he commited happened on Auburn University property and has costs the University and the City thousands of dollars...and then are surprised that we want him to pay for that?
And you want him to pay for that with life in prison or the death penalty? I never said he shouldn't have to pay for those costs, but demanding his life isn't going to cover that monty.
Is Toomers Corner actually Auburn University property? That's an honest question, I've never been there. I thought it was in the town of Auburn, not on campus. And even if it is university property does that mean he deserves a harsher punishment than if it was his neighbor's trees? Does public intoxication on campus carry a stiffer penalty than public intoxication in town?
I haven't seen anyone yet say he should be let off, just saying that a lot of Auburn people are overreacting because they are too emotionally vested in the trees.

whatever the court decides. I'm tired of hearing about this shite on the radio waves around here.
Maybe they could let Tammy sit on his face too?

No one is seriously saying that here.

The trees are.

It's owned by the state of Alabama so yeah, stiffer penalties can apply.

We're emotionally invested because it was an act against us.

Plenty of "off with his head" and "make him drink poison" punishments as well.

1. Yes 2. Why are you offering an opinion on a place youve never been?

University prop is funded by the state...so yes, it is different.
