What do Sarkisian and Venables have in common?

Despite poor QB play leading to upsets neither coach has the balls to pull their QB1 for the supposed star of the future to get game experience now.
Sarkisian is going with Manning even though the whorns are playing a Mississippi team with one of the worst pass defenses in FBS, seemingly a perfect opponent for a 1st game starter.
Venables is sticking with Mateer, fresh off a 3 INT game versus Kentucky with the Sooners facing another team with an even worse pass defense, Mississippi State.
Apparently the buyout on both coaches is sufficiently high enough that they can afford to write off 2026 and not even try to salvage something playing a promising backup.

I don't know much about who the backup is at each school, but in general, the starter is light years better than the backup.

When I heard why Venables was not replacing Mateer for a pocket passer behind a bad Oline, that kind of makes sense, don't get your young QB destroyed in the pocket. But seems past time for him to pull the trigger now. I mean your season is toast anyway, and Texas is almost to that point.
Sarks situation at Texas makes no sense at all. Bring in a fricking OC/ QB coach that has time to work with and develop the QBs. Even if it is still Sarks offense they would be running, it would probably make a world of difference to have a coach dedicated to just developing the QBs and teaching the offense to them. I think that is the main issue, lack of development, and the offense is a little too complicated. We saw it with Ewers also in his time. He regressed in development just like Arch is regressing now. If they lose another game or 2 in embarassing fashion with a boatload of 3 and outs again, Sarks seat is going to be smoking hot, and he's gonna have to make a lot of changes.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian signed a contract extension through the 2031 season with an annual salary starting at $10.8 million and scaling up to $12.3 million by the final year.
hire a sunbelt hero coach for pennies, let arch walk, keep sark around and let him get liquored up as a quasi-coach o, and spend the money you would pay on a new coach on NIL
you're welcome I just fixed Texas

The BU at OU is Whit Neubauer 6’7” 240 pounds with a canon for an arm.
Arbuckle and Mateer came as a package . Arbuckle effectively ran off legacy QB Hawkins to WVU by not playing him , while pretending Mateer was ok 3 weeks after hand surgery.

Oklahomas problem isn’t Mateer ….. it’s Venables

Yep I have been watching Hawkins success……
When Arbuckle was asked if he had considered starting Hawkins instead of Mateer (Mateer was just 3 weeks off hand surgery) in the 2025 RRR, which OU lost something like 45-0, Arbuckle said he never even considered starting Hawkins…
Arbuckle is another in our string of failed OCs….

I know WVU is 4-3, but Hawkins has been pretty good. I think he is the perfect type of QB for that Rich Rod system.

Well, maybe but maybe not
Arch Manning remains Texas' QB1, but backup KJ Lacey reportedly getting more 1st-team reps

We’ve had a shite oline the past 3 years and will have a shite oline next year.
Why not get your future qb experience how to play with a shite oline? You will learn more with him under pressure than a great passing pocket
