with that logic why not just end all spectator sports. I mean, on average 100 people are killed each day in a car wreck
I don't say this lightly: That is the stupidest analogy I have ever heard.

There have been at least 10 people on this site that I've seen use it today

USA is 8 days behind Italy. We are testing nowhere near the amount that Italy was testing 8 days ago. TRUMP denied the WHO tests and gave the contract to a company he owns stock in and now there ARE NOT enough tests. 10,000 people a day tested in South Korea, not even 10,000 all month in USA>

I hate comparisons like that as well.
Big difference between accidents and preventive measures of a spreading virus.

Quit bitching, it won't make anything change.
In the space of 24 hrs, multiple states and institutions have basically shut down business for the foreseeable future, to prevent and contain the spread of a contagious virus sweeping the entire world.
Saying "But it hasn't killed a lot of people yet" is pointless- the goal is to keep it that way.
We DON'T want this thing getting out in the general population any more than it already has. I might have it, and if I go to the same event you go to, I might spread it to you and countless others.
Once it became known that an NBA player had it, the NBA shut down. Once they did, it was inevitable that everyone else would, too- precedent had been set. From here on out, any public event becomes liable, and if someone attends and becomes sick, they can/will sue, citing the NBA's decision as example of responsible behavior.
Given that people are probably already sick and don't yet know it, that's almost a guarantee of multiple large payouts.
Also, since the NBA had A PLAYER with it, all such events put not just fans, but the athletes themselves at risk. And the NCAA does not want that liability, since they WILL lose on the grounds of endangering a student-athlete at this point.
I don't like it any more than you, or any other sports fan. But it is what it is.

For all those boohooing the loss of sporting events, please remember that we are experiencing a genuine pandemic that poses a severe threat to our older population. If you’re younger than 60 and healthy, you probably won’t experience much more than flu-like symptoms.
For the elderly and infirm, however, it’s truly a matter of life or death. Lots of people are discounting the pandemic by saying it has a low mortality rate. That’s for the general population. The kill rate for older people is quite high. That’s one of the reasons the WHO has labeled it a pandemic. Please take it upon yourself to help the older people in your life avoid exposure to the virus.

Yep, but imagine if the 40 year old has a heart attack or the 48 year old has a stroke, but there just aren’t enough paramedics and hospital beds to take you in.....

quote:you cant be this ignorant. THEY DONT HAVE ANY TESTS. there are millions with it already just walking around. Gov of Ohio just said on the news that they think Ohio has between 100,000 and 200,000 infected already and Trump has only gave them access to 300 tests state wide. They have accepted that people are just not going to be getting a test!~
