Because Texas is trying to throw their weight around like they did in the Big 12. As the newcomer they have no voice in making major changes. They should be satisfied with being part of a very old and elite club and keep it at that.

You realize that by making the statement that charges were dropped, you’re admitting that he was charged

Let me explain to you a little bit about how the world works.
Disney has a massive market cap. One of their subsidiaries is ESPN.
The SEC signed an exclusive contract with ESPN.
The University of Texas has such a close relationship with Disney that they gave us our own network to prevent their cfb network model from blowing up. It bought them time.
That time allowed new leadership to emerge at Texas, and ESPN ushered us into the SEC with OU in tow. That’s what happened.

I had to go look it up, and Vanderbilt is actually in the SEC? Why? Is there a way Sankey can kick them out for us.
Vanderbilt is one of the only schools that gives this conference a veneer of academic respectability. It's bad enough to be associated with this collection of Deliverance style rednecks as it is. Why in the world would you want them gone? Might as well kick out Florida, too, while you're at it, so we really don't have any other schools with a decent academic pedigree.

Yes, but there's no chance Texas is going to be able to dictate things in the SEC the way they did the SWC or the Big 12.
But the truth is the Big 12 was having a tough time serving two different masters. OU and Texas wanted the conference run a certain way as the haves of the conference. The rest of the teams wanted the conference to cater to their needs as smaller athletic budget programs.
The writing was on the wall in terms of UT's departure, and OU had long ago signaled they were going wherever Texas was going, so it was always going to be a package deal.
Make no mistake, Texas had to make several sacrifices to join the SEC. They didn't get a full payout the first year (fair - Texas wasn't in the conference a full year, and got the amount commensurate with their time in the conference). They had to give up the Longhorn Network and sign over their tier 3 rights to the SEC. They wanted all conference schools to offer full scholarships for all athletes. That hasn't happened. They want 9 conference games. That hasn't happened. They had to pay an enormous settlement to the Big 12. They had to play Michigan last year in Ann Arbor to please Fox, with the return game delayed in return for the early departure from the Big 12.
And the SEC has catered to Texas. They brokered the admission to the SEC in secret. The Big 10 insisted on a public dialogue, which was dead on arrival. Texas couldn't afford the state legislature to know about negotiations until it was a done deal, or else the legislature would have torpedoed it just like they did the exit from the SWC, where Texas was forced to take Baylor and Texas Tech or else face massive funding cuts. The SEC did not involve A&M in the discussions until the deal was done because they knew the Aggies would be furious. Then they forced A&M into making it a unanimous decision to allow Texas and OU entry for the purpose of optics.
Texas is never going to be as important to the SEC as it was to the SWC or Big 12. But Texas can still be important. And we'll win more SEC championships in the 20 sports we field than anyone else. I realize a lot depends on football, as it should be (unless you're Kentucky or Vanderbilt), but if Texas wins in football and men's basketball - and that's still an *if* - then from an athletic department standpoint we'll definitely be throwing our weight around, regardless of whether the conference agrees with our every position or not.
And frankly I'm just grateful to be in a conference full of teams with big football stadiums sharing one of the two most lucrative programming deals in college sports. Because while no one approaches UT's revenue numbers, there's no true poors, either, which means everyone is on the same page in a way they just weren't in the Big 12, and never were going to be.

And what about the promises you made that he “for sure said something dumb” or that he would “be forced to issue an apology and plead down to a lesser charge”?
Or better yet, what about when you said they “had to know he was a celebrity” and for sure consulted higher ups beforehand (which turned out to not be the case)
Damn, Sarge: even more than a year later you’re getting dunked on over this
It’s gotta be sad knowing that an aggie will never see one of their own win a major, so the next best thing is hoping a longhorn gets arrested on some bogus charge

You Texas boys will be the first to go. Last one in first one out. You don’t belong in this club, and never will.

It may not happen this year or the next or even in the next 20 years, but one day, Vandy will beat Texas in football and it’ll hurt you and you’ll be ashamed and I’ll feel good. Vandy fans play the long game. The losses don’t really hurt that bad because we’ve grown used to it, but the wins feel better than any win you’ve ever felt.
