Southeast Texas is probably the most humid region in the US

Oh look, a pig disparaging our BBQ. The irony.

Definitely a difference between Texas BBQ and SC BBQ, but there are many kinds of BBQ to be found in SC, including some of the best.

Well, if that is your option for a SEC town, then I guess it will have to do....

Shealy's is vinegar based and I don't eat there. It's trash gas fired.

Maurice's is mustard based, as are his brother's stuff at Bessinger's.

Hudson's Smokehouse has all three, including brisket, but they are primarily tomato based. Their only vinegar base is the hot stuff.

Jackie Hite's, which I think is the best, has all three depending upon your tastes and Jackie smokes his slow and steady like it is supposed to be done.

Belly's is vinegar based but good.

Duke's is rated as some of the best in the country. So is Good Land's and neither of them are vinegar based. Big Al's, etc.

There are 100s more.

At least try to be truthful when you're disparaging our BBQ.

In the entire year I lived in Columbia, I maybe ate BBQ 4 times.

Now Rockaways? That's a different story.

Columbia is awesome, I love it there. You can just head downtown and there's plenty of places to go.

It's actually one of the better cities/towns in the SEC for him. What 35 year old professional really wants to reside in a college town such as Athens, Tuscaloosa, Oxford, or Starkville. Cities are where its at for graduates looking for real world opportunities.
Columbia really has it all as far as SEC cities go. Not the biggest, not the smallest and USC is really separated from the downtown area so it doesn't feel like you're in a crowded city or anything and don't have to put up with city traffic. But if you are out of college (or like 25+) you can settle down in some of the nicer areas but also find the places where the college students go to let off steam.

Let me put it this way, there isn't anything amazingly exciting about Columbia, like I already said. But there's nothing outstanding that you can point to that would really detract from it as a desirable southern city to live in.

We've already addressed the BBQ inaccuracies with your post ... now it is time to address the boiled peanuts comment.

I'd mostly agree with that. For someone in their 30's I think Nashville is by far the best city that is home to an SEC school. But Columbia is definitely right up there after Nashville.

Yeah I said Cola is one of the better cities, not the best. I would agree with Nashville being tops. I'd put Lexington, Knoxville and Cola next. I guess these are the only real 'cities' with SEC schools. Everywhere else I would say is mainly a college town.

I love mustard base! Never really had much of the ketchup and vinegar base.

Out of all the places you named, I've only been to Maurice's (I have one literally right around the corner from my house). It's ok. Good not great.

To the OP, Columbia is a nice enough town. Good schools, and a lot of great things to do either in town or not to far. I never saw Cola as a College town. I know that USC helps a lot with the economy , but since it's in a certain spot, there is still more to do around town.

Gainesville and Tuscaloosa are both small cities. Baton Rouge is larger than both Knoxville and Columbia.
