But a lot of people (including many on this board) say "we" when refering to their favorite teams (college and pro). Why is this new to you?
Also what would these teams be without any fans?

But that was just last year. Contemplate personal foul calls, kicks out of bounds, screen passes, phantom interceptions, Ritter, the REC, the SEC office in Birmingham.
Think about the unfair scheduling, false national championships, fake rivalry with Tennessee, stealing Saban. Consider 30 years without a win in Tuger Stadium, Bear Bryant drunk bearing LSU like a cur for years and years.
