What if he won it at a casino, what could they do about that?

Birmingham's former (and now in jail) mayor was implicated in a scheme like this a couple years back where he made several trips to McGregor's casino and was led to machines where he hit several jackpots to the tune of a couple hundred thousand. I am telling you the guy is crazy and they have had wiretaps on him for over a year.

If this man's name (Milton McGregor) comes up in any story related to this scandal in a major news report, it is over for Auburn because they have his tapes.

Well you do know that he is an Auburn grad and was on theo board of trustees at Lowders Bank. He put 13 million into Lowders bank right before the feds took it over.

Lowder, McGregor and Pat Dye were three of the largest shareholders at Colonial Bank and they lost millions of dollars when the feds took it over. I think McGregor is a very bad man.

I think this will be the biggest think we have ever seen if it unfolds the way I think it will. Cam Newton is going to be an after thought in all of this.

If you win over a certain amount the casino has to report winnings to the IRS. I'm not positive, but I think the winner has to fill out IRS paperwork when they collect their winnings.

Depends on how you won. If it is a mechanical device (slots/vpoker) then any amount $1,200 or over is reported by the casino on an IRS form. Table games (BK, Craps, etc.) are not subject to this rule - one exception is the progressive jackpots on CB Poker (Royal Flush, etc.). Also, if you attempt to use more then $10K of your 'own' cash (not chips or markers) in a 24 hours period, the casino has to report that.

If a member of the Auburn BOT is proven to be involved, NCAA can (and probably will) classify as a lack of institutional control. This is what really got SMU the death penalty (big time car dealer was the conduit and on their board) - difference was SMU was already on probation. If any of this is factual and can be proven, Auburn will be in serious trouble.

If this is all true, oh my goodness.

All of these individual stories have been floating around Alabama and building for the past 10 years. If this all comes together in the Cam Newton case, the entire state of Alabama is going to be affected.

Milton MacGregor and Victoryland

Bobby Lowder and Colonial Bank

Pat Dye and the Auburn Board of Trustees

Auburn's desire for football relevance

Jealousy of Alabama and Nick Saban forced them into action

Go back to Tommy Tuberville and Jetgate. Lowder wanted Tubberville out of there and he wanted someone he could control. Cue Bobby Petrino. Petrino has already showed what kind of person he is when he left Atlanta. That's who Lowder wanted.

So, they push Tuberville out and go and get a 5-19 coach that used to work on Auburn's staff. Someone Lowder knew he could control. They set the whole thing up for him to be successful and go buy players, using gambling money from Milton MacGregor, a close personal friend of Bobby Lowder and Pat Dye.

Wow. It all makes a lot of sense now.

If true, this is going to be REALLY ugly. It ties together several of the most salacious political/financial scandals in Alabama over the past decade and implicates Auburn football.

Larry Langford is already in prison. MacGregor has been indicted. The FBI has been all over this. Who's next?

Wow.

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

If AU is found to be involved in paying Newton's father or participating in talks to pay him - even if they didn't pay him yet - AU is in serious trouble.

But if you're looking at the root cause of why, just imagine the thought of Nick Saban taking up shop 100 miles down the road, and then watching Saban lead Ala to undefeated SEC West records two years in a row and the BCSNC in 2009 - about the time the Newton's were engaging in their shenanigans. I bet there was some serious panick among some of Auburn's big boosters, who knew without someone like Newton 2010 was shaping up as a potential disaster.

Auburn was desparate for a season like this and desparation is a dangerous motivator.

About whether or not it's legal to win money at a casino, sure it is, but that doesn't matter as far as the NCAA is concerned. The NCAA has different rules than law enforcement and can punish people/teams/universities for whatever reason they see fit. Remember, in the NCAA's mind, accepting a vacation from a friend is a harsher penalty than getting a DUI or being convicted of domestic violence.

Big winners at casinos have to fill out IRS forms. So Ceceil and Co, would be on record somewhere
quote:

The IRS requires gaming establishments and casinos to report all payouts, also called jackpots, to players equal to or greater than a specified amount (currently $1,200) on IRS Form W2-G. The casino is required to obtain the player's Taxpayer Identification Number and prepare a W2-G Form for each and every payout that meets the criterion defined above. Thus, each time a player receives $1,200 or more on a jackpot, the casino must stop play and then issue a W2-G Form.

The writer mentions this in passing as if it were a well known case. I know there has been message board chatter about Newton for several weeks, but most of this stuff just went public in the last two weeks. Any idea why he would've mentioned it like that?
I'm almost positive he's talking about the "pay-for-play" scheme in the Alabama legislature, not what Auburn has been doing. McGregor was buying votes in the legislature.

"It will not stay on plains", is no reflection about Alabama paying players, but to the scope of the investigation.

A casino owner would not need to rig games to pay someone. All that has to happen is that when Cecil get up to his room he has 60 k in chips in his gift basket. He goes down for a few hours mulls around then cashs out. Kinda Like Gov Edwards always one at least 100k when he went to Vegas. All cameras etc are casino property.

He would play a few hands of black Jack craps etc (high dollar, then cash out) He could this 9 times to keep it under 10k each time if really smart.

My question would be if the FEDS/FBI found something on the wire taps that would implicate the Newton's "play for pay deal" but not violate any federal laws would they or could they legally turn it over to the NCAA for further investiation?

I know nothing about any details here other than what has been reported in this thread or in the media. I just want to add that I fricking love the SEC. Only in the SEC is this kind of ridiculousness still possible. Following this shite is as good as watching the games. JMO.

Apparently this thread is being referenced on 105.5 in Birmingham...

quote:

They just reported this on the radio 105.5 in Birmingham during the news break at 2:00. From the site Tiger Dropping, reports are that the FBI has taped conversations of Milton McGregor (These were recorded during the bingo probe in the Alabama Congress) where he discusses pay for play regarding Cam Newton. That’s all they said, take it for what it worth, but for some reason it made the radio.

I think Tigerdroppings is just a blog site. Just thought I would pass it on.
