The Southeastern Conference has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama against Louisiana State University and head coach Lane Kiffin, according to documents obtained by On3. LSU president Wade Rousse, athletic director Verge Ausberry and Kiffin are named defendants.
The news comes the same day as a preliminary injunction hearing in Baton Rouge, where the judge is expected to decide whether the temporary restraining order would remain in place until a trial date is set. If the injunction is granted, it would give LSU legal standing to play former Ole Miss and NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright. LSU opens the 2026 season on Saturday night in a top-25 matchup against Clemson.
In its complaint, the SEC requests the court “enter a preliminary and permanent injunction prohibiting Defendants from violating the Conference’s First Amendment rights by compelling the Conference to associate with conduct that is contrary to the Conference’s purpose and mission.”

Is this even going to be a thing? This will be thrown out pretty quickly. LSU didn’t sue for an injunction. Players did. Is the SEC going to sue these players? LSU didn’t compel anything. A court and a judge did.
The question is really which school breaks ranks and signs one of these players next.

Yeah but sec will win the members must follow there bylaws in federal court and sec will have every right to punish lsu, kiffin, etc. precedent in Frderal Court already set with Big 12 case with Tech.

"Podunk judge"? This particular plaintiff atty has been actively & successfully suing the NCAA for years. He didn't just pop up out of the blue with his lawsuit ( on behalf of the players)
