Half the people calling it a high school offense don't even know the basics of the playbooks, hell, they don't even know the philosophies.
If it works, it works. I don't even understand what's so gimmicky about it, most of it is downfield running with a solid short to intermediate passing game mixed in (at least last year, there is some hopes that the deep ball can become more prevalent with Newton), run in the hurry up. The only thing different is the sheer amount of motion which intends to and succeeds in confusing defenses.

By what measure? That hypothetical entails that Alabama goes undefeated against Auburn's schedule and then jumps Oklahoma/USC, which isn't happening.
Glad to see you recognize a horrible argument when you see one though. They are rampant on this board.
Nobody said anything about playing Auburn's 04 schedule. They just said 08 Bama. 08 Bama had a stronger SOS, so what I said was true. Also, it's a terrible argument, so that is true too.

I was talking about the whole "if it was Alabama in 2004 we would have made it" crap, which some people genuinely believe.
Which in all honesty I fail to comprehend. They base that on the merit of Alabama's name, but it's like they forget that Oklahoma and USC are both on that same tier in football history.

You're blurring the point and not proving that it's invalid.

No I'm not, that point was something that sounded good until you got to the meat of it. Seasons aren't the same, and team's rise through the rankings depend a good bit on the other teams in the rankings. Alabama didn't become #1 until the previous #1 lost (Texas), Auburn didn't have the benefit of Oklahoma/USC losing.

Joking bro. AU does run a lot of unconventional plays but so do others.

It's a possibility. Au wasn't that far off from it. Bama had a better SOS, so I can see where the argument could be made as a possibility. However, we finished 6-6 and sucked it up that yr.

The hypothetical that would have to be set up to measure the stregnth of Alabama's name (the merit of which the argument is based) [i.e. "Alabama would have gotten in because they wouldn't have left Alabama out"] would have to include Alabama playing Auburn's schedule, because that's just how you would have to measure that intangible, with the SOS being a constant.
But even if we used your hypothetical, Alabama still wouldn't have jumped them. That game was being hyped as the game of the century before it happened.
But there's no sense in arguing that further, we've come to an agreeance that it's a pointless and genuinely poor argument.

Call that offense whatever you want. I bet Gus Malzahn gets a head coaching job with a big name university in 1-3 years. That guy has been a winner anywhere he has been. Shiloh Christian, Springdale High, Hogs, Tulsa, wherever that guy goes his offense moves the chains.

That's what I'm saying. People gripe because his resume could fit on a post-it note right now, but really.
Sets high school records in Arkansas.
Has the SEC's best offense with Arkansas in 2006.
Top 3 in the nation in offense at Tulsa for two straight years.
Takes Auburn's mess of an offense and turns it from like 112 to like 17. (WITH CHRIS TODD, mind you)
He will have a good offense at Auburn this year again, and might stay for one more year. After that, I think he'll get his shot at a big time school and I think with a solid DC he's going to be good.

I would like to thank the '04 Aubs for being the sacrificial lambs to ensure that an undefeated SEC team wasn't shut out of the NCG again.
Or at least until the next time they make a deep run in the season undefeated.

Come on bro. McFadden and Jones made that offense. Malzahn didn't have shite to do with it.

Or Malzahn gave them more and better opportunities to make big plays with all his misdirection and keeping defenses guessing.
If he had sucked after Arky, you might have an arguement. Instead he went to Tulsa (Tulsa!) and led the nation in offense. Then he went to AU and turned one of the worst offenses in the NCAA into an offense that broke all kinds of records at AU. In his first year.

Sure, McFadden and Jones are the shite. Still the same, I watched that guy coach up in the Springdale area and I'm telling you the guy is a good coach. Had Houston Nutt not been a controlling fool and let his assistants coach he might still have his old job up at U of A. Gus did a good job over a Tulsa as well. The man can coach a football team. Malzahn is head coaching material for sure.

Tulsa. Really? Who the frick does Tulsa play?

Who the frick cares. Their offense went from what the frick ever to #1 in the country playing the exact same teams.
About the same for AU. From piss poor to very good.

Any school that is looking to hire a head coach I would imagine.
Look I'm not saying he isn't a good coach. But saying he was the reason for Arkansas' great offense is false. And using Tulsa to strengthen your argument is weak.

Teams with the same talent level as them.

And isn't Tulsa like the least funded university in Division 1A?
