Tulsa. Really? Who the frick does Tulsa play?

You do understand this is the coach that invented the Wildcat formation that the Hogs and later the Miami Dolphins made a household name? Malzahn ran that shite starting at Shiloh Christian and now every team in the NFL has some form of the Wildcat in their playbook. Whether you like Auburn or not, Gus Malzahn is a very talented and innovative coach.

Any school that is looking to hire a head coach I would imagine.

Look I'm not saying he isn't a good coach. But saying he was the reason for Arkansas' great offense is false. And using Tulsa to strengthen your argument is weak.

1. He wasn't the reason for success at Arkansas, hell he was handcuffed by Nutt severely. But they led the SEC in offense that year, he utilized the talent well.

2. I'm not sure how using his success at Tulsa on a resume is weak. They were putting up 566 yards a game. That is incredible. And it was on teams with their talent level or greater than their talent level (that offense had some success on Arkansas while he was there)

You ever heard of David Palmer? Malzahn was probably a college student when Palmer was running the wildcat. And why do you think it's called the "wildcat"? Google is your friend.

Never said he wasn't. But the reasons you're giving don't add up. He was hired at Arkansas because of the high schoolers he would bring with him, correct?

This is 100% accurate. I'm not a Hog fan but sometimes I will go to their games since I live up here. You could tell when Coach Nutt would call a play and interfer with what Malzahn was doing. The Hogs would be rolling then all the sudden the Hogs would go to that same shite Nutt likes to run and it cost them some games when Nutt would go conservative and their fanbase went crazy and it got ugly up here. Nutt was scared of how popular Malzahn was and I think Gus just said the hell with it and went and coached 50 minutes west from Springdale where he did not have to sell his house and uproot his family. Gus never talked any smack on the Razorbacks and really is a class act. I keep hearing his name mentioned with the Colorado job that may come open at the end of the season. Without a doubt I think Gus Malzahn's offense would tear it up out in the Pac 10 where they like to open things up.

That and the Hog fans were sick and tired of Houston Nutt getting all conservative all the time and the fanbase wanted change. They wanted to open things up and score more. Yeah, I remember Palmer very well. Look, I agree with you, Malzahn was not totally responsible for the Hogs success that year. I only stated that wherever that guy has coached, at any level, be it at a small high school, big high school, mid level D-1 ball, or the Hogs or Auburn, his teams that he has coached on offense have always moved the chains. You mentioned Google. If you Google the before and after offensive stats on the teams he has coached at it is pretty impressive. Anywhere that man has coached their offenses have made improvement and did it in a hurry.

His being hired at Arkansas wasnt based solely on his merits. And Tulsa, in my mind, doesnt mean a whole lot. But if Malzahn has a good offense at AU for a few years, then no one will question his capabilities.

Oh for sure, the Hogs wanted that QB Mustain and that wide receiver Williams but Malzahn was also brought in because he can coach and the Hogs wanted a new identity. Bad as I hate it, I think AU will move the chains.

Alabama spotted them a lead and then pulled the football out from under them Charlie Brown style.
