No one outside of LSU would have offered Coach O a HC position the year y’all did and it got you a natty.

and I wonder how Coach O would do at Ole Miss

What will end up being higher there, his winning percentage or his BAC?

You guys just committed $150m and would be happy with averaging .5 more wins per season than Kelly?

thats exactly what it is....we are trying to maintain a playoff spot and a year tryout.

who knows with the right coordinators...even someone like ed ogeron can win some big football games.

i mean that’s the difference between making the playoff and not.

i don’t think any team can expect much better than 107-34 over a ten year period, do you?

This makes a lot of sense. I think it was a smart move for Ole Miss to hire Golding right now. Priority one was securing as much continuity as they could for the playoff run. If Golding turns out not to be the right guy, cut bait and move on. With the advent of the transfer portal, coaching hiring mistakes are nowhere near as catastrophic as they used to be. .

Golding also knows what the deal is. He’s gonna get paid big time so it’s great financially but it’s relatively low pressure for him to the extent that it’s not some huge professional setback if things don’t go great.

Getting a great payday when the expectations are not very high is a great deal. The drive and focus should still be there…the CFP is a huge opportunity and I think he really has a team that’s going to feel like it wants to prove something. None of that will guarantee results and I have concerns that they will lose some of their operational efficiency.

The upside possibility is that Golfing has worked for both Kiffin and Golding. This means he is probably well acquainted with Saban’s process as well as how Kiffin deviated and/or adapted to it.

In the normal course of business, it would suggest that he’d be a high risk/high reward type of hire. I have my reservations because I never wanted to lose Kiffin and it’s we’d have to get a top 10% type of outcome with the hire to be equivalent to Kiffin but that certainly leaves the possibility of it occurring. The opposite side of the probability curve is very bad but I think we will just be prepared to make a quick exit.

I don’t think there will be any hard feelings if we do because he knows the deal coming in and gets a huge payday.

The upside 10% probably would include a natty. That would obvious be fantastic on its own but it would also give him recruiting and portal clout that would be second to almost no one.

FWIW, LSU fans would probably hate it but I think the upper level people at LSU would secretly love that outcome because it would also boost the LSU brand and it would give LSU that mega rivalry national showcase that OM largely hasn’t fulfilled - particularly from the 70s thru 2010s (exception being the Eli years which culminated in a very high profile game, an LSU natty, and the infamous 2003 west co-champs banner).

We made a winner out of Kiffin. We can certainly work with a bonafide Saban disciple.

Speaking of BAC let’s hope Kiffin stays on the wagon in BR! For LSU’s sake!

Oh he is off the wagon, just not alcohol. Tyler has a bag that he is always interested in.
