Probably the worst coach in SEC history. Got fired after a 4-8 season where we lost to Ole Miss 45-0. But got a raw deal according to a fan of a team that fired a successful coach and hired a coach that went 3-21 in the SEC.

He got the raw deal from Alabama, who wouldn't hire him as head coach because he's black. Even tho he was player and assistant coach there as well as NFL coaching xp, they hired Shula. Finebaum and Lowe ran a propaganda piece for ESPN, said it was because of Shula's dad and the fact Shula had a "southern belle" wife.

I don't think he didn't get hired because he's black. I think he didn't get hired because Bama needed someone in the interim to guide them through tough times. There were no long term solution coaches available at that time and Shula was the far more firable option.

Croom sucked it up at State, but you think he got a raw deal from UA?

So you absolutely admit his race played a factor.

Also, do programs hire coaches to fire them?

Haha...mostly all true, but he still wasn't worse than Curley Hallman. At least Croom messed up one year and made it to and won a bowl game. I agree with everything else though and Mullen has done much better than Croom ever did.

There's a difference between not hiring a guy because he's black (in that you don't want a black coach) vs not hiring him because you know it would be damn near impossible to fire him. Any fool outside of Miss State knew Croom wasn't HC material. That's why you're Moo State.

And do programs hire coaches to fire them? Absolutely they do. If that were the case, Croom would still be at Moo State.

So they should have hired him because he's black? Shula's record proved be was the better coach. But... muh racism.

Jesus Christ before long, it'll be racist to fire a black coach, even if he records zero wins over a six year period.

Raw Deal? He had no clue how to be head coach and never should have gotten the job!

You didn't watch team after team unable to complete a pass against air. Dude had no clue. I was at the 3-2 game vs Auburn. We got a turnover on the Auburn 40 and went backwards.

Good Guy, sure but not anything about him says Head Coach.

Thing is, if he had just fired the joke of OC, State may have kept him. But he .... Wait...

Bait taken

What? We hired Croom just to fire him, not bring success on the field? So your opinion is Shula was hired just to take a fall? Did anyone tell Shula this? And if we hired Croom just to fire him why would he still be there?

Other than interim problem fixers such as John L Smith and the guy at Baylor last year, when is this ever the case?

He was good enough to play, good enough to be an assistant for 10+ years, good enough for the NFL, but anyone can see he is not HC material?

And Gus is? Freeze? Jones? Bert?

What fools, given those above, get to plainly see who is HC material?
