I had flipped over to it when it looked like Alabama was going to smash Florida. Turned back to CBS when Florida settled down.

Was it reviewed and if not why?

It was reviewable but they didnt. I expect it was because everyone in Bham was watching the Bama game instead of doing their jobs.

They reviewed our successful onside kick to confirm it went 10 yards, it did but somehow upon review they decided that there was an "illegal block" so we had to re kick

You have to ask the SEC. All they said was that they should have but didn’t… oopsie.

Since when did they start tacking on penalties on review I thought you couldn’t review penalties?

It was reviewable but wasn't reviewed.

There were three things that happened on the play that should have nullified the touchdown.

1. The ball was freaking downed and signaled dead by two officials.
2. The offense was coming on the field to set up for Memphis and 42 players were on the field as the guy scored,.
3. The play was run with two players on the Memphis side wearing the same jersey number.

All three were reviewable and it didn't happen. There is some chatter that the people in Birmingham that were to watch every play and initiate a booth review were into the Alabama-Florida game which was at a crucial moment at the time. They turned away because it was a punt and couldn't initiate a review before the XP was tried.

It was a clusterfrick.

Unbelievable. Surely Curles (sp?) and his crew will be suspended for several games. Inexcusable.

I'd hate to be the back judge Saturday vs LSU and State. State (if they punt ) will probably pick the dead ball up and throw it at the guy's groin like in the original Longest Yard when the Burt Reynolds pelts Ray Nitchke.

Forget reviewing… the guys that called it dead were too gutless to step up and say that they stopped the play. Right or wrong, the play is over when they start those signals.

They were trying to call timeout before the XP and it wasn't granted.

That’s only in the pros. College coaches don’t have challenge flags.

This. I've heard about "inadvertant whistles" forever.

The guy threw down his marker bag and was on his second "jumping jack" motion calling the play dead. That official needs to be fired for not stepping up and saying he had called it dead and at least slowed things down long enough for them to look at what happened. Whole crew should be gone, you can't let pivotal game plays like that go.

On that play, I kept thinking it was a play they let play out so they can go back to review it to get the correct call. They didn't even do that. All around incompetency on the entire crew, much less that gutless back judge waving it dead.

Probably because it doesn't exist in college.

That honestly wasn’t even the worst blunder. Their review on our recovered onside kick and calling a penalty off the video that wasn’t even in question. Just a total frick job by the refs. I’m not a ref complainer usually but they really did cost us this game. Frustrating

That officiating crew needs to find other employment. That was complete and utter BS. I don't know how much more the ball had to be downed? Deflate it? The ref waved his arms and signalled the play dead. At least the entire country now gets to see the annual clown show of SEC officiating.

Never forget, state was losing the game at this point anyway, Memphis had all the momentum, and states offense had been shutout then entire second half.

All of this revisionist history that if you take away that play the rest of the game plays out exactly the same is ridiculous.

It is just as likely that if that play is called dead, or the penalty for 2 players with the same number is called, state goes for it on 4th and 1 from midfield, and leach outsmarts himself and throws a 50 yard bomb that lands incomplete. Memphis takes over at midfield, goes down and score a TD with less than a minute remaining and wins by 10.

Blame refs all you want, but leach lost this game. 67 pass attempts to 16 rushes. Throwing fades to the corner of the end zone on 4th and goal from the 2. Pretty much all of the 4th down calls he made were atrocious.
