Hard for him to win more games when Florida had better teams.

Travis Henry was a great back up he played in the NFL for years.

Lewis being hurt did not hurt like FSU losing its 2 qbs.

Dan Kendra was the intended number one, but he never took a snap during the 1998 season. He blew out his ACL in the spring game. Then during the summer rehab, he blew himself up with a homemade bomb. So he returned in 1999 as the starting QB, right? Not a chance. He never took another snap at QB and returned in 1999 as the starting - wait for it - fullback. How can Dan Kendra be the 1998 starting QB when he never took another snap in his life?

the team's female trainer -

At the time, the star QB was having his foot examined by Naughright because he had fragile little ballerina feet all the way back in 1996, too. Who knew? As Naughright was bent over looking at his papier-mâché metatarsals, Manning decided it would be a good idea to give her a taste of his Tennessee Volunteers taint.

Manning allegedly pulled his shorts down; when Naughright stood up she got full on arse and balls to the face. As Naughright described it, “It was the Gluteus Maximus, the rectum, the testicles and the area in between the testicles. And all that was on my face when I pushed him up.” Which really doesn’t sound good at all. Especially so when you consider the fact that the rectum is an internal organ.

she's been paid 3 times now - once by UTK and twice by Manning himself -

The greatest crime involving Peyton in '97 was Manning finishing second in Heisman voting. He should have been third behind Woodson and Randy Moss.

The same way Cardale Jones was the 3rd string QB for Ohio State in 2014. Braxton Miller was hurt before the season started. JT Barret started the entire season until he got hurt in the Michigan game. Then Jones came in, yet ESPN and all the sports commentators claim Jones was the 3rd string QB.

I agree with you about these QBs being 2nd stringers, but the media does not.

Still lost to Florida who he never beat

This is something that's always kinda weird to me to say about the guy negatively, since it assumes that florida was meh and peyton simply choked. In reality very, VERY few teams not named florida state beat florida during the entire decade. Peyton wasn't unique in that regard. In fact, here are all the regular season SEC games UF lost that decades since the SEC went to divisions:

92: UT, MSU
93 and 94: AU
95 and 96: N/A
97: LSU, UGA
98: UT
99: AL

Yeap. And thanks to the struggling AFC South and AFC west during his tenure.

No they didn't. Fulmer was the biggest Butt Hole in the SEC, but he could recruit. Both sides of the ball. Spurrier had talent but never was a great recruiter himself.

Spurrier still had better talent or he wouldn't have had a winning record against Fulmer.

Dummy?

Who's the dummy? The guy never took another snap at QB, and returned as a fullback. How is he the starting QB in a season in which he never took a snap? And never took another snap because he was a fullback? Not much of a QB.

To answer your question, yes, 1997 was his top college achievement because he led his team to the SEC championship while hurt. Of course, Tee Martin had a better season the next year, leading his team to an undefeated season, the SEC title and the first BCS championship. By the way, when was the last time Ole Miss won the SEC?

Let me make it simple for you. Florida State depth charts:

1998 QB
(1) Chris Weinke
(2) Marcus Outzen

1999 QB
(1) Chris Weinke
(2) Marcus Outzen

1999 FB
Dan Kendra

Pretty sure it’s the NFL HOF and CFHOF that would be is greatest achievements.

Dude is likely going to be in the sports writers and sportscaster hall of fame before he’s done.

He has a billion dollar brand, and has been at the pinnacle of everything aspect of his career.

But sure losing a college football game would trump that I guess.

Y’all are weird.

If Iamaleava gets hurt tomorrow (I hope not) would UT turn to the second string QB? Wouldn't UTk fans be saying the season would have gone better if you had not lost Iamaleava? Of course you would, and rightfully so.
If Iamaleava remains injury free he will be the starter, right?

Your point is valid. The big difference is that Kendra blew his knee out in spring practice and never played QB again. He was never listed as the starting QB on Florida State's depth chart again. As of August, 1998, he was not QB but MIA, and Weinke was QB1. He then returned in August, 1999, not as QB bur as FB1. As of August, 2024, Nico is our QB1, and that's the difference.
