I can't believe how fast this has all happened. It seemed like yesterday that she announced her diagnosis and was stepping down. This is an awful disease and it's absolutely heartbreaking. I can only pray for strength and peace for Coach Summitt and her loved ones.

She is at the bitter end. Great coach and legend.

I really feel horrible about this. I hate that she is having to go out like this. She is such a legend that it's hard to believe she could even get sick. Much less come down with this disease.
I also feel horrible for Tennessee fans. She was the one constant in your athletic program. No matter what was going on you could count on her making the Vols proud. Damn

While I'm still partially in denial of it all (my head and my heart can't agree), I just wanna say that the outpouring here on tRant has been amazing. It means a lot to us. THANK YOU!

It's very sad. Not just a great coach but a great ambassador for the game she loved and dedicated her life to.

Blessings to you and your family. I had a great aunt pass away last week and we have a really close family friend in the same boat. In fact, they were roommates at the home. God doesn't let us choose but honestly for the persons sake I think it would have been better had the friend passed and the aunt lived. I guess before them I never knew the differences on how Alzheimer's effected people. The aunt was seemingly happy the bulk of the time even if she didn't know what was going on and who people were. The friend you can see the misery on her face, she just seems trapped like she's in there somewhere and just can't get out. As for Coach Summit and her family they are probably lucky she went so quickly and didn't have to languish for years and years.

My grandmom died of Alzheimer's. It is a horrible terrible disease. You lose the person before you lose the body. People with Alzheimer's are often terrified that they dont know where they are, who they are with, or what they are doing. Essentially you die alone, even when surrounded by those who love you.
frick this disease.
frick this disease.
