And there it is. Spyre broke the rules and put Nico on the old LeerJet and closed the deal for UT. Looks like no way out for the Vols on this one. And just when they were starting to get respectable again. This one hurts.

Spyre can fly him on a jet at a time, idiot. He’s their client. If he happens to visit the UT campus after discussing business at their office, so be it.

Does the transfer have portal open if a team is under investigation?

Law suits will kill the NCAA. If they can go back retroactively. When they had no rules about NIL. Plus the courts mandated players can be paid. and AIL goes through a third-party which they said six months ago that Tennessee’s NIL was one of the best in the country. Now they change their mind. This is going to be the death of the NCAA because other schools would join the lawsuit. They can go after any university they want if they go retroactive.

How do you still cheat when you can openly pay players?

So the huge scandal is about a booster using a private jet to fly Nico to Knoxville to discuss a brokered NIL deal per the local folks. This was not a violation in 2023, this was not done at the request of the university, this was not facilitated by the university, and the NCAA has no subpoena power to look into the booster or NIL transactions.
This is a nothing burger y’all. A bunch of smoke and no fire.

It wasn’t a booster as far we know. Spyre paid for the plane.

You may have been joking but you'd be surprised how many don't understand NIL.

No sympathy from LSU fans regarding the NCAA’s selective prosecution, but goddamn their AD hit the nail on the head with the whole section on them being intellectually dishonest about NIL.

If NCAA proceeds with this they are fcked. The chancellor made the right call here. This is the way.

And yet Janzen Jackson's crazy arse seems like 100 years ago.
Vols at it again.

Made me wonder what happened to him. He was apparently sentenced to 11 years and one article cites that he'd been in jail since 2013. Well it's now 2024 soooo my guess is that he's either out or will be out soon.

I appreciate Donde Plowman's response to the NCAA. I like the FU response to them. My question is, where the heck is Greg Sankey in all of this?

Greg ain’t getting in the middle of y’all’s bullshite

The NCAA was bound to try and make an example out of somebody since they have lost basically all power with the current NIL and transfer portal rules

NIL rules published by the NCAA in July
2021:
quote:
Recruiting conversations between an individual or entity that has triggered booster status (“booster/NIL entity”) and a PSA are not permissible.
quote:
Booster/NIL entity may not communicate (e.g., call, text, direct message) with a PSA, a PSA’s family, or others affiliated with the PSA for a recruiting purpose or to encourage the PSA’s enrollment at a particular institution. • An NIL agreement between a PSA and a booster/NIL entity may not be guaranteed or promised contingent on initial or continuing enrollment at a particular institution. • Institutional coaches and staff may not organize, facilitate or arrange a meeting between a booster/NIL entity and a PSA (e.g., provide the individual or entity with a recruiting list or watch list, including the NCAA Transfer Portal). • Institutional coaches and staff may not communicate directly or indirectly with a PSA on behalf of a booster/NIL entity. • NIL agreements must be based on an independent, case-by-case analysis of the value that each athlete brings to an NIL agreement as opposed to providing compensation or incentives for enrollment decisions (e.g., signing a letter of intent or transferring), athletic performance (e.g., points scored, minutes played, winning a contest), achievement (e.g., starting position, award winner) or membership on a team (e.g., being on roster)
Seems pretty cut and dry.

Is the NCAA really gonna go on this crusade? Fla St, Florida, and now Tenn. The system is broke. Penalizing teams after the fact is petty.
This.
Sounds like the NCAA moved the goalposts.
