The orange on white uniforms are one of the most traditional in CFB. I don't understand why there is some compulsion to change.

It's all about $$$ for Nike. UT has some sort of unwritten agreement with them to wear an alternate uniform for at least one game so they can increase jersey sales.

Last year it was the "Dark Mode" black uniforms. This is the first time UT has worn the "Smoky Greys" since 2017.
Since LSU wears white, this allows UT to get it out of the way without subjecting the home crowd to them.

Those uniforms are so bad. I menitoned before at some point that "Tennessee football" is white pants with orange stripes, a white or orange top, and huge block letters. Of course with a white helmet and orange T. Granted times have changed so the font/numbers porbably had to change too but that's the look that UT should wear. These grays are dumb, don't look like UT, don't look intimidating, and it's not a primary school color. And on the road to boot!

Agree with everything you said. Love those huge numbers we used to have. I also support the orange pants because we’ve worn those historically. And IMO the pants don’t necessarily need stripes (see below) but They look good. I don’t really like the use of gray or black.

But it feels better to complain about uniforms when we’re actually winning a few games.

I seem to recall there's some division in the fanbase on the use of the black outlin around the numberse like in the pic you posted, is that right?

I'm sure every CFB ever tends to have more fond or stronger memories from their coming of age time period, and I grew up int he 90s so those arethe UT jerseys I remember. To go along with that, UT was elite at the time and routinely whipped us so those jerseys to me jsut opn their own are a bit of a strong statement. When I look up and see gray bottoms, tops, and helmets with a tiny hint of orange on there it doesn't make me think Tennessee at all.

I actually think our current traditional uniforms look better than they have in probably 15 years. Adidas couldn’t get the orange right towards the end, and then our initial switch to Nike with Butch was ridiculous with the checkerboard shite all over everything. You’re exactly right about the number font needing to be ditched with block numbers returning. Also I would get rid of the orange collar on the road jerseys imo. I am not of a fan of the smokey greys as they are a reminder of Butch and like you said, it just doesn’t look like VOLS. I am not against the dark modes being used like once per year for a night fixture tho. The croots do seem to love those

This Tennessee uniforms turbo nerd on twitter made some pretty cool concepts a while back with these some subtle changes to our modern unis

Well that sucks. I love Tennessee's standard uniforms. I was looking forward to seeing them in person again.

Oh, lordy. Last time the Vols wore those against UGA, the Dawgs SMOKED the big orange. LSU will do the same.
