Lol, no.
I actually know several State fans retiring in Oxford. I also know several State fans who are farmers in the North Delta who have moved to Oxford.
There was a long thread on Elitedawgs a few months back where State fans were talking about how many of their kids were choosing Ole Miss because the town, atmosphere, sports, etc were so much better. And several posters chiming in with "I can't blame them'.
There may be a rivalry between Oxford and Starkville. But when it comes to quality of the town there's simply no comparison

Oxford was a tiny one horse town just outside the cotton patch back then. You could argue that they should have routed I-55 through Greenwood back then though.
1950's? I-55 followed HWY 51. If Oxford was a 1 horse town, Starkville was a 1 cow pasture.
Starkville was cut off from civilization until the 1990's.
What a awful characterization.

The state of Mississippi's greatest achievement was when they finished Hwy 82 so you could completely bypass Starkville going from Tupelo to Jackson. Before then, me and my dad would throw our Ole Miss window flags on the windows and go right through the fricking middle of starkville.

Oxford can't compete though in the "going shoulder deep in livestock" culture of Starkville.

Growing up, it took all damn day to get to Starkville from Jackson. 2 lanes, log trucks. Was awful

You could feel the average tooth and IQ count go down as soon as you passed the giant metal horse before hitting 82.

Grit is up there. The old chef from Ravine has a new spot too. The menu at Snackbar isn’t bad, but it’s been better. That said, it’s the best thing Currence has. CG is so overrated and BBB sucks. Boure is solid. Oh and Tarasque is fricking awesome.

Yeah, there’s more than one on my street. Which is weird. Why retire here then fly all your clanga flags?
