So McElwain was running wildcat before Malzahn was?

Kansas State was...

What about the play where the receiver motions all the way into the backfield behind the play, I've only seen one school run that play...well two after Bama decided to throw it in their playbook...

Urban Meyer used versions of that play with "quirk-backs".

quote:

Know what else is funny, Bammers been claiming their version of the wildcat wasn't gimmicky because they only ran Ingram out of it.

I don't recall saying that, considering what Darren McFadden and Felix Jones accomplished in that formation.

quote:

Now all of a sudden..."oh yea, we've been running that jet sweep for years"

Alabama hasn't been running it "for years". But McElwain brought those type of plays, or similar plays, with him from Fresno State. His offenses were even more wide open at Eastern Washington.

Like I said, McElwain has tendencies to add all kinds of plays to his playbook, but its still Saban's offense in the end. Considering McElwain's background with the spread and west coast offenses, it's no surprise he would give his on take, or even borrow those plays. Good coaches do that. I don't think anyone was bitching when Bob Stoops and his staff used "the diamond" that Oklahoma State perfected.

they also ran a hb pass two years ago and ran a flea flicker against arky

We ran a flea flicker against Ole Miss in 2008. It actually worked even better than the one ran out of the wildcat against Arkansas.

The HB pass wasn't invented by Gus Malzahn. It's been used for several decades.

Look back at the first quarter of the 2009 Iron Bowl and then say that your offense isn't based on trickeration. And yes that is a word.

I saw Alabama run the same exact reverse in the 1st half of '10 IRON BOWL, that Auburn ran in the 1st half of the '09 IRON BOWL.. Only Auburn scored a touchdown off of it.

Maybe we're called gimmicky because we're so successful at what we do.

I'm not debating that Alabama's offense doesn't employ motion plays, to deceive the defense. However, the entire offense isn't based around it. Regardless, both offenses are productive. I'm not sure why a video is needed to deflect message board fodder from 2009, when Malzahn was hired.

whoever made that video isn't very well versed in football. I'll just leave it at that.

Unless you're cashing paychecks as a OC, I'm not sure how you can break down the nuances of each offenses's version of the reverse to even tell the difference. Most reverses are pretty damn similar. You're not just splitting hairs to make an argument. This butthurt over message board posts from Malzahn's hire is about like the Auburn fans having to live up to predictions in 2007 that Saban wouldn't be able to recruit like he did at LSU.

I don't understand why you feel the need to come on here and defend the dumbass who were talking out of their arse in 2009.

Just enjoy the crow and STFU.

Apparently proving people wrong is now considered butthurt.

Prove people wrong. That's fine. But this video does not do that. It just shows the ignorance of the person who made the video.

Bottom line is this, Bama fans have been calling AU's offense a gimmick, high school because of the plays in that video.

So according to Bama fans, when AU run the plays, they're running trick plays, gimmick plays etc

But when Bama runs the same identical plays, it's just McElwain showing his versatility b/c he's been running those same plays for years.

It isn't the fact that the plays them self are gimmicky. It is who is running the play. Cam Newton running the play vs McElroy running the play makes the difference. The ability of Newton to run the way he did made another threat on each of those plays whereas for McElroy teams didn't really worry about him tucking and running it like Cam did.

Gimmicks don't matter. Winning does. Both OC's have a national title. Crappy slap fight topic.
