The biggest problem who is going to be the OC? Might try get one from the SEC? Someone near by? The one that beat Texas earlier this year? This would be a homerun hire if OU can get it done.

Some are suggesting the OC from Ole Miss but I have no reason to add my name to that rumor.

I may be wrong but it seems to me if Vernables was going to take the job he already would have, Clemson is not preparing for the playoffs or a conference championship game. I read earlier he's out recruiting for Clemson currently so I don't think it's going to be him

I agree that is puzzling but more times than not a new HC, school, agent, and lawyers have to iron out the document.

Eh, Oklahoma was an elite defensive team for most of Bob's tenure.
exactly, Venables worked for Stoops until Mike was fired from Arizona.

Venables is a great coach, but cannot imagine him being the face of the program virtually anywhere.

Unless Beamer turned them down, he would've been my 1st choice to stabilize the ship.

Not sure that Venables is the answer for OU.

Burnt Vegetables is perfect for OU. I see a lot of 47-20 SEC losses in OU's future.

Why not go one higher to Briles? OC at Arkansas? His father can help him out. Just like South Carolina did when the AD hired Beemer. No reason why it would work but might take a couple of years to set it up. recruiting wise and hiring right assistants.

Venables seems content being a defensive coordinator.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about Venables as an OU fan. 50 years old is pretty old for your first HC job and it kind of makes you wonder why. He's been a stellar DC at Clemson for awhile now, and he's certainly had chances to be a HC had he shown interest of actually wanting to be one. Why now? Why not before?

Agree.
Some some coaches are great HCs and some are born coordinators.
Only time will tell with him.

Which teams from the SEC is a threat to take away your top recruits? I saw a post that Arkansas is trying to take OU recruits away and that wouldn't be a good idea. One way to get back at them is to take an assistant from Arkansas! Like I said OC Briles would be a good one.

3rd post down original thread behind pay wall. Sooner Scoup keeps hinting at this as late as 5:30 today.

Claim it is Dabo again today

I think it is Cristobal or Arranda

The BOR met today and the agenda included the HC hire...but no announcement is coming till Saturday

Cristobal finishes his season Friday night Arranda finishes his season Saturday by 3 pm.

Both are in their respective CCG,.

If it were Venables we would know by now,,,,

I don’t think OU taps another assistant since the last promoted assistant never stepped up to be a real[ HC....

Cristobal or Arranda could make it to Norman for a Saturday announcement...

Bringing in a defensive minded coach to a program that has been focused more on offense for the last 20 years. What could go wrong?

Worked out well for Florida.
