UT-App St seemed very similar to our game last year vs. Georgia Southern

We also won in overtime.

Except we were terrible.

And we fired Richt.

Good thing Butch won't "apologize for a victory." Might make his termination easier.

Ga Southern and App State are much than you think...much better than most fans realize ....

Sometimes they deserve some credit...

I think almost every team has a game like that - where it looks like they didn't prepare for a fight

UT ain't doing that.

You should never schedule schools like Ap State, Ga Southern, Louisiana Lafayette, Sam Houston, Eastern Mich, etc.

Those schools are filled with guys who are good enough to play in the SEC, etc but for some reason are playing where they are and they are ticked off about it.

They have nothing the lose because they are expected to lose.

It's safer to schedule the Oklahoma's, USC's, UCLA's etc. It does not hurt you in the polls.

Totally agree with OP. Most of my family graduated from GSU and I've been around that program for a very long time. Those schools in the Sun Belt aren't little boys anymore, they now have the scholarships and resources to recruit good football players year and year out.

With that being said, we were not a good football team last year offensively. Period. My biggest surprise from last night wasn't that this game was close, but the way UT got pushed around on the line of scrimmage and the horrible decisions from Dobbs really shocked me.

It amazes me how people think. Some of those teams mentioned actually have talent and good coaches. At the end of the day the Sec teams will find a way to beat them from superior talent and depth but don't underestimate some of those teams.

ETA: The Sunbelt is not that bad. Then add the fact that they want to knock off a power 5 team and you're gonna find extra planning and a team that does not take a snap off. They are going to play every down like it's the super bowl. Ask Ole Miss about Memphis.

Miss State will find itself in a bad situation on the road vs BYU. It will come off a short week on top of taking a day off to go cross country. Then we have to play late at night dictated by ESPN our time because of the time zone. I actually worry about that game while we are breaking in a new QB and defensive scheme. That's just football.
