#2 Alabama beat #1 in the Sugar Bowl for the title. Even Chicken agrees that Bama is the 1978 national champion.

While playing Nebraska Billy Simms had I my humble opinion one of the greatest runs ever (thinking 7-8 huskers had their hands on him) broke free and fumbled just before goal line. Nebraska won that game but OU and Nebraska played in bowl game and OU easily won. That year OU was the only team that beat every team they played. That fumble cost them yet another national championship

Indeed, the Trojans smacked Bama in Birmingham, 24-14. USC was the real champ that year.

USC beat Bama head to head in Tuscaloosa
That one has to sting a little to Bama fans
And then USC went on to lose against Arizona by 13 points.
Funny how people like you want to leave out the part where the other teams loses ranks because of games they lost.
Should A&M have been #1 in 2012?
Ole Miss in 2015?
How about Kentucky or Arkansas in 2007?

Gots 18? No, and neither does Bammer.
You don't have to like it... but you're still wrong. EVERY Bama national championship claimed is legitimate to the standards of the day. Except 1941. No honest Bama fan claims that one.

The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.
Show me just one other team with an AP/Coaches poll title that doesn’t claim it and I’ll agree.

Going back to 1978 to poke at Bama is so LSU.

1973 might have been even worse.
1973 National Championship- AP puts Bama 4th after their bowl game loss. Bama claims a NC from the UPI poll that was taken before they met Notre Dame in the bowl game and lost. There were 3 teams with better records than Bama that year. The embarrassment of naming Alabama number one caused the UPI to name champions after bowl games. Yet Bammer has no shame in claiming it of course.
Gots 18? No, and neither does Bammer.
The UPI awarded Alabama that national championship a month prior to the bowl game.
But go ahead and tell everyone how you are completely clueless about football history and how things work. As if the National Championships was awarded after the bowl games.
That team was already named National Champions before they ever set foot on the field.
fricking retard.

That season was one of the better examples of the old "head to head" vs. "who lost last" dilemma that dogged CFB for so long.
USC beat Bama and then later lost to ASU. That year the polls split on which was more important.
Hopefully those days are over now.
The bowl game matches that year were #1 Penn St vs #2 Alabama and #3 USC vs #5 Michigan.
Maybe if the Pac and Big10 hadn't locked up the Rose Bowl USC could have played a better opponent like Penn St.

In that Rose Bowl game, USC fumbled before White crossed the goal line and Michigan recovered. Michigan would have won that game if that call was corrected.

No matter how many National Titles you hate that Bama has, they won't ever go away. Move on.

bullshite!
Your 20s and 30s championships were all claimed retroactively. Some of them because a single individual called you champion.
A few others the other "co-champion" waxed your sorry asses on the field.
Keep waving those insecure little dicks in the air, and the rest of America will keep laughing at you. The ONLY people who believe your bullshite claims, are you inferiority complex afflicted Bammers.

Three national tiles in the 1970's: 1973, 1978, and 1979. It was a glorious decade running the wishbone under Coach Bryant. Nothing but great memories that will last forever. Thanks for reminding me of how wonderful it was!
No dog in the fight, but 1973 and 1978 were ridiculous.
1973 is obvious.
1978, USC beat them head to head on the road. No way that title shouldn't go to USC.
