The summer or so before he poisoned them one of professors said the trees were doing great. They had a lot of new growth. Having an entire corner of asphalt and brick does tend to limit the amount of rainfall that can get to the roots though.

Following UAT logic, if you kill someone then you can just plead that the victim was dying anyway. IMHO if God was going to give the earth an enema she would insert it in Tuscaloosa. I am so delighted that none of my family or loved ones are affliated with UAT.

Some of you guys are being intentionally obtuse on this. Updyke deserved punishment for his act, but it makes no sense to be silent about the fact that an Auburn tradition was already killing those trees. It is that simple. If Alabama gets a black eye for one yahoo doing what he did, why should Auburn fans escape responsibility for killing those trees when their own leaders admit that that is what they were doing?

If Updyke wasn't such a dumbass and bragging about poisoning the trees on the radio he most likely gets away with it.
