Pretty sure Sagarin himself has said that his rankings aren't reliable until later in the season, but he was pressed to have them out early by USA.

I could be remembering incorrectly though.

I'm sure he did. Computer models are based on data, specifically data that can cross reference games by teams against other teams. Through 2 weeks there just isn't enough of that, so you have to either plug with preseason data or just go with what you have, which can be pretty off.
