If Hurts was so great in the Texas game, what was Burrow?

Jalen Hurts 16/28 for 235, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception, 131 yards rushing

Joe Burrow 31/39 for 471 yards , 4 touchdowns, 1 interception

Tua Tagovailoa is once again the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy after the Crimson Tide rolled over Texas A&M in Week 7. After consecutive weeks where Joe Burrow and then Jalen Hurts topped the odds table, Tua (+115) is back perched for the second week in a row where he spent most of 2018.

Following Tagovailoa on Bovada’s list of Heisman Trophy odds are Jalen Hurts (+300), Joe Burrow (+300), Justin Fields (+900) and Jonathan Taylor (+1200).

D’Andre Swift (+10000) and Trevor Lawrence (+7000) have fallen way back from contention.

It’s a Quarterback Award
It’s normally a QB who takes home this trophy and although Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor is pushing hard from the backfield, it’s the gunslingers who continue to lead the odds.

Of the top five candidates, only one isn’t a quarterback. Further down the oddsboard we see running backs J.K. Dobbins (+7000), Travis Etienne (+9000) and AJ Dillon (+20000).

Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy is the best wide receiver option on the list at +6000.

Here’s a look at the full list:

2019 Heisman Trophy Odds
Player Odds
Tua Tagovailoa +115
Jalen Hurts +300
Joe Burrow +300
Justin Fields +900
Jonathan Taylor +1200
Justin Herbert +6000
Jerry Jeudy +6000
Jake Fromm +7000
J.K. Dobbins +7000
Trevor Lawrence +7000
Travis Etienne +9000
Bo Nix +9000
D’Andre Swift +10000
Sam Ehlinger +10000
Ian Book +10000
Kelly Bryant +10000
Shea Patterson +10000
AJ Dillon +20000

This is by far the most pro-Burrow for Heisman quote ITT

Hurts wins going away. Too good of a story to ignore.

I'll edit. Still miles away from Burrow's total yardage.

Except he put up less points and TDs than Burrow against them.

Fornette beats Bama and is a Heisman lock..

Bama takes his manhood and Derrick Henry earns the trophy

To be fair that was a better Bama defense against an archaic LSU offense. I'm not saying LSU will win this year, but I think LSU will put up some numbers on the scoreboard.

It’s not an award for best passer.

True. But you don't have to be a dual threat quarterback to win the Heisman.

WTF does LF have to do with a QB

That is a night and day comparison. We didn’t have a QB and everyone in the stadium knew he was going to run.

Did you just start following football in 2016

The melt on here by Bama fans is going to be glorious

If Burrow beats Bama, Burrow will win the Heisman. Difficult? No doubt. A dumb take? No way.

Who was the last pure passer to win?

Here's the quote:
quote:

Burrows (sp?) best win is Tejas, and Hurts was a GOD in their game obliterating them,

Hurts had 366 total yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT vs Texas - running AND throwing.

Burrow had 479 total yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT vs Texas - running AND throwing.

If Hurts was a "GOD" vs Texas, what would that make Burrow vs Texas?

Not to mention, Burrow was 31 of 39 passing (79.5%), while Hurts was only 16 of 28 passing (57.1%).

Bottom line is Burrow outplayed Hurts vs Texas.

Baker Mayfield two years ago.

Baker averaged 22 rushing yards per game his Heisman season (3.2 yards per carry, 5 rushing TD's in 14 games)

Joe is averaging about 18 rushing yards per game (3.0 yards per carry, 2 rushing TD's in 6 games).
